El Radio Fantastique washed up on the shores of San Francisco in the fall of '05- brought with the flood from New Orleans, where the group was first raised from the swamps. Inspired by a bizarre family tale of a sinister radio that possessed it's listeners, principal songwriters, singers, bandleaders Giovanni and June DiMorente approach their music like one would turn a dial on an antique radio; tuning in to a broad and wide-ranging spectrum of musical styles, places, and times to create a sound that is at once haunting and eerily familiar.
El Radio Fantastique’s own blend of musical theater will move you to magical and mysterious places you’ve heard whispers of in your half sleep, seen in your dreams, and feared in dim light. Utilizing a splendid array of instruments, old stuff and a droll merry misery, singer Giovanni DiMorente takes you on a semi-autobiographical, intimate midnight ride. With wistful melodies and echoes of somber beauty, our wonder tonic of a miniature symphony will gently light your path.
"Ticklin' The Strings" by Sweet Hollywaiians
Amazing Japanese hot string band playing 1920's, 30's, 40's style hawaiian, swing, calypso, blues, italian music and originals, featuring vintage instruments.3 songs with Robert Armstrong and Tony Marcus(from Robert Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders)
"The Sweet Hollywaiians have probably the best feel for this 20's music of any string band working today. They manage the rare feat of sounding relaxed even when their playing is hot, are top notch musicians with tasteful arrangements and a full, rich, warm sound.Plus, they have a nice gamut of tunes, from King Nawahi to Giovanni Vicari to Bobby Leecan. See them live, if you can, for an unforgettable experience. If you can't, buy their Cds!" ~ Terry Zwigoff

New Year's Eve shindig was WONDERFUL! I totally enjoyed myself. Also our visit at Vladamir's and your lovely home. And, of course, meeting wee Clementine. What a comfort to see NOLA pals putting roots down in Northern California. I listened to your CD from the hostel to the airport. So very good to see you folks.
Come join the celebration over the release of our new CD – Boteco!!
‘Boteco’ is an artful mixture of neo-futuristic traditional Brazilian rhythms with the right quantity of the best North American spices. It is funk and rock boiling and baking with samba, maracatu, frevo and baiao.
Put Pele and Mohammed Ali in a fictional mix machine. Now add Frank Zappa, Sergio Mendes, Tom Jobim and Roger Waters and fused in to one. What a mix eh? Bat Makumba is this fusion, multiplied by 2.
