I, Elrik (aka Rik), am a Second Life avatar. I sprang into existence - if that's the right expression - when my Mundane's friend Kirsty invited him to a party in Second Life.
That was back in late March 2007. Although Elrik is 'only' (ha!) the SL incarnation of a Mundane (Real Life or RL) entity, I have a great deal of fun and seem, somehow, to be always blurring the boundaries between the metaverses.
You can call me Rik for short - it is a good abbreviation for my Mundane's first name too.
I've made a number of friends in SL. And, as they are real people, they are real friends too, and my friends are the most special people in my life. I have also been hurt and, most upsettingly, been responsible for others getting hurt - for which I think I will be saddened all my life. Never think that SL is in any way "not real" - it is very real indeed. Really.
Today I live in the Independent State of Caledon, a wonderful place that is perhaps unique in Second Life: an amazing land with great people all working together to create and build a real community in a virtual world.
*The term "Mundane" comes from Piers Anthony's Xanth novels. It's the term for people who live in the ordinary, real-life world where there is no magic, rather than the magical world of Xanth next door, which is much more fun and noted for its terrible puns. I first heard the term in SL (applied to RL people) from my friend and awesome mentor Van, and it seems incredibly appropriate - especially as my Mundane has been a Piers Anthony fan for decades. 我想認識： I'm always open to meeting new people and making new friendships and discoveries in Second Life. In fact, my friends are my life, and they enrich it daily.
My policy on accepting adds to this page is that I generally need to already know you in SL. If my Mundane and yours also know each other, feel free to put an add request into his page too. Just don't cross the streams, so to speak.
