    Rocky's Interests
GeneralRock and Roll music (especially from or rooted in the 6T’s), trash culture and TV, Djing with my wife Deena, our weekly radio show, 'Real Cool Time' at 6 pm every Tuesday on www.ciut.fm, comedy, movies (especially those described with DVS), sports, fanzine writing and generally just diggin’ the FUN side of life!
MusicI have been listening to and accumulating records ever since the Beatles broke in North America and a babysitter played the Kinks’ “All Day and All of the Night” for me as an impressionable 7 year old in ‘64. Growing up in Thunder Bay, Ontario, my adolescent and adult years were spent in large part seeking out rock and roll sounds not heard on the ever-worsening commercial radio of the ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s. I began reading influential magazines such as Creem in the ‘70s when my tastes expanded from the relatively underground hard-rock sounds of Blue Oyster cult to slightly more intricate offerings such as Be Bop Deluxe and Roxy Music, finally ending the decade exploring the raw beauty-in-simplicity of the Ramones as well as power pop acts like the Romantics and 20/20. But my musical epiphany or “paradigm shift” did not occur until early 1982 upon reading about and then hearing the Fleshtones’ first LP, “Roman Gods.” This was the moment which stunningly clarified for me the link between “Louie Louie,” Lenny Kaye’s seminal 2-LP “Nuggets” collection and the fresh new wave of backward-looking bands on small labels such as IRS. From then on, I was hooked on “garage band” sounds along with most other genres that peaked in the sixties like surf, beat, psych and soul. Fave Bands: Standells, Electric Prunes, 13th Floor Elevators, Chocolate Watchband, Remains, Sonics, early Stones, early Beatles, Kinks, Eyes, early Pretty Things, Them, Q65, Flamin' Groovies, Real Kids, Barracudas, Nerves, Let's Active, Ramones, Fleshtones, Chesterfield Kings,Lyres, Vipers, Things, Thanes, early Pandoras, Brood, Untamed Youth, Hate-Bombs, Stems, Satelliters, Woggles, Ugly Beats, Midways, Whammies…and many many more!
MoviesMonty Python and the Holy Grail, Rock and Roll High School, That Thing You Do, Riot On Sunset Strip and lots of other rock and roll, comedy, suspense, action (all kinds), sports and weird flicks.
TelevisionMostly 60’s and 70’s like Beverly Hillbillies, Burke’s Law, Dick Van Dyke, Mary Tyler Moore, The Nightstalker, Time Tunnel, Ed Sullivan, Shindig, Hullabaloo, Danger Man, The Prisoner, etc…and of course classic cartoons like the Flinstones, Bugs Bunny and…Rocky and Bullwinkle! More recently, Parker Lewis Can’t Lose, Seinfeld, Simpsons, King of the Hill, South Park, Family Guy, Apprentice, Sopranos, NFL, NHL, MLB, etc.

   Rocky's Blurbs
About me:
Just a big teenager! Even though I enjoyed my life growing up and working in the mid-sized, but isolated Northern Ontario city of Thunder bay (originally Fort William), I always yearned for the big city. And so in 2001, after meeting my soulmate Deena from NYC on the Bomp list, we got married and both re-located to Toronto where we currently reside in our swingin’ downtown condo. And incidentally…I happen to be blind, so please forgive the relative lack of visual stimulation on this space. For more action, check out http://www.realcooltimeradio.blogspot.com

The Cryers

Sep 17 2008 2:08 AM

Hey Everybody!
We are headed back to the shores of Lake Erie and returning to the eclectic charms of The Theatre 145 on Friday September 19th. The Cryers will be opening for The Pete Best Band with original songs from our new CD "Rock 'n Roll Holiday" as well as some of our own renditions of classic Beatles and '60s tunes.

We will be performing with The Pete Best Band several times this fall on their US/Canadian Tour in support of their new CD "Hayman's Green". "Hayman's Green" is Pete's first album of original material . Largely biographical, the album is a musical documentary, not only depicting Pete's own life, but the trials and tribulations of life in general.

The Cryers are proud to be supporting our old pals from across the big pond! Hope you all will come out and join us for an evening of Smokin' Rock 'n Roll!!

All the Best . . .

Hey rocky, thanks for keeping open mind, I just can't be garage all the time, there is just to much music out there. All I want to be is a modern Pop Writer, or is that Power Pop, with somewhat, lax perspective,
Whatever.
Thanks for the add.
