They won't be this week's sweetest catch; neither will they be next week. Elstar is simply too mature to roll with the youngsters. They will have to rest that thought. But it's not like they rest at all. After the release of their first studio recording - the ep Tuxedo Park - this five piece did not sit still for one moment. Between the summer of 2005 and now, the release date of the new ep Lalala, The Mess We're In, the band managed to bend their sparkling pop music into a flourishing success story.

The critics already underlined the great potential of the Tuxedo-tracks. After they referred Elstar to the famous Dutch apple over and over again (and rarely amusing), many 'hooray's' followed. Holland's leading music magazine OOR called upon record labels to sign the band, while LiveXS magazine awarded the band with the Dommelsch Independent Music Award. Alongside this trophy the girl and four boys were presented an extensive tour plan, which brought them to some of the biggest club venues in the Netherlands. Meanwhile their upbeat summer track Monsters became an underground hit on national radio, entirely on its own strength.

But before we start bragging: let's go back to the music. Lalala, The mess We're In is the latest chapter in Elstars' song book. The mini album consists of five songs, again recorded with great craftsmanship, but also with relatively simple tools. More than ever before this collection of songs brings out the overall sound of the band. Sometimes Elstar sounds tender and modest, at other moments enthusiastic, cheerful, or exuberant. Air Guitar, a song that's up for downloading since December 2006, clearly rocks out the last category. But actually it doesn't matter which mood the songs represent, the harmonious vocal melodies always sound spontaneous, catchy and above all: heart-warming. They try to bring a little perspective to a world that seems to have lost most of it. They soothe: Lalala, The Mess We're In.
