About Elton...

Name at birth: Reginald Kenneth Dwight Born: 25 March 1947 Birthplace: Middlesex, England Best Known As: Singer of "Candle in the Wind" A prolific songwriter and a flamboyant performer, Elton John had 30 different hits on the top 40 charts between 1970 and 1982. His theatrical stage appearances, with John changing into a succession of elaborate costumes and outlandish spectacles, helped make him a pop megastar. His hit tunes included "Goodbye, Yellow Brick Road," "Your Song," "Bennie and the Jets," and "Rocket Man." All were written with his longtime lyricist, Bernie Taupin. Although John lost a bit of his shine during the '80s, he re-emerged as a force in the 1990s, touring and recording and cementing his spot among the pop music aristocracy. He performed his song "Candle in the Wind" at the funeral of Princess Diana in 1997, and the song went on to become an international best-seller. John (like Paul McCartney) was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1997. According to a 2004 BBC profile, John "has the rare accolade of charting a Top 40 single every year from 1970 to 1996"... "Candle in the Wind" originally was written about actress Marilyn Monroe... In 2000 John caused a flap when he performed a duet at the Grammy awards with controversial rapper Eminem... On 21 December 2005, John entered into civil partnership with his longtime companion, filmmaker David Furnish, shortly after such partnerships became legal in England. Short biography taken from Answers.com

Who I'd like to meet:
We'll Sir Elton has already met and been knighted by the Queen.. so.. I dont think there is anyone else that is better to meet than that.

Elton John Interested in Adopting Ukrainian ChildImage and video hosting by TinyPic
Pop star Elton John, 62, is looking to adopt after, he says, an orphan toddler named Lev stole his heart.
John and longtime partner David Furnish met the child while touring a Ukrainian orphanage, the Associated Press reports. "David always wanted to adopt a child and I always said 'no' because I am 62 and I think because of the traveling I do and the life I have, maybe it wouldn't be fair for the child," the music legend told AP.
"But having seen Lev today, I would love to adopt him. I don't know how we do that but he has stolen my heart. And he has stolen David's heart and it would be wonderful if we can have a home. I've changed my mind today."
John's longtime friend and keyboardist Guy Babylon passed away suddenly last week. He said of his friend, "It broke my heart because he was such a genius and so young and has two wonderful children. … What better opportunity to replace someone I lost than to replace him with someone I can give a future to?"
Though John and Furnish both have a desire to adopt the child, John is still uncertain as to whether it is possible, saying, "I don't know what the procedure is to adopt a boy from the Ukraine. I don't think I can because England doesn't have a treaty with the Ukraine.&qu

Billy Joel ill; Joel/John Buffalo show postponedImage and video hosting by TinyPicBUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Billy Joel and Elton John have postponed their concert in Buffalo, N.Y., because Joel isn't feeling well.

Concert promoters say Joel's doctors advised him not to perform Friday's sold-out show at HSBC Arena after he came down with flu-like symptoms.

A new date for the concert, a stop on the pair's Face 2 Face tour, is expected to be announced next week.

Elton John Says Goodbye to Vegas... For NowImage and video hosting by TinyPicAfter a five year run and 241 shows Elton John said goodbye to Las Vegas on Wednesday night -- but the music legend assured his fans he will be back soon.

In his final show on Wednesday night John played several of his hits and thanked his adoring fans, the Associated Press reports.

The singer originally planned to perform only 75 shows over three years, but according to casino officials more shows were added due to such large demand.

"Who are you going to get to fill in our shoes now?" he said. "You've got Bette Midler, you've got Cher. It's gonna be the Village People next."

"One day I might even see you in Vegas, OK? But until then, I love you,"John told his fans before performing his hit "Your Song" to end the show.

Elton John Biography Sir Elton John CBE (born Reginald Dwight, 25.3.1947)

Elton John is an English singer and songwriter, who rose to fame in the 1970s and has continued his career over four decades.

Elton John: Childhood

Elton John was born in Middlesex, in a house belonging to his mother's parents. Although his father tried to encourage him toward a conventional career, such as banking, Elton decided to pursue his musical career after leaving Pinner County Grammar School at 15.

Elton's parents were keen followers of popular music and were responsible for introducing him to the likes of Elvis Presley and Bill Haley in the 1950s.

Elton's piano playing began when he was three years old and lessons started when he was seven. Aged 11, Elton won a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music.

It wasn't until 1972 that he legally changed his name to Elton Hercules John.

Elton John: His Musical Genesis

Aged 15, Elton (still known as Reginald Dwight) began playing piano at weekends in his local pub. He included his own compositions alongside covers of Jim Reeves as well as old pub standards such as 'Roll Out the Barrel.'

He went on to perform in hotel bars and formed a band in 1964, called Bluesology. Bluesology became a backing band for the likes of The Isley Brothers and Patti LaBelle

In 1967, Elton's relationship with Bernie Taupin began. They had both answered an ad placed in the New Musical Express, by the A&R manager of Liberty Records. Elton wrote the music to a number of Bernie's lyrics, posted them to him, and their long-lived partnership began there and then. For two years, they wrote songs for the likes of Lulu and Roger Cook as well as Britain's 1969 Eurovision entry, 'Can't Go On (Living Without You).

Eventually, the songwriting duo began writing songs for Elton to perform.
In 1969, the single 'Lady Samantha' and an album, Empty Sky were released, to great reviews, but poor sale

Image and video hosting by TinyPicSIR ELTON JOHN has given a special Christmas present to medical staff in Britain - the singer has donated a thousand free tickets to one of his concerts.
The Rocket Man gave the tickets to the U.K.'s Nation Health Service (NHS) to thank medics for their hard work over the year.
The tickets were subsequently donated to two hospitals in the West Midlands area and sold off for a small fee to raise money for charity.
University Hospital Birmingham NHS Trust received 450 and raised more than $14,600 (GBP10,000) for its in-house charity.
A representative for the organisation says, "It is a good gift to the hospital at Christmas. Our staff can go out and enjoy themselves after a year of helping people.

Elton John celebrates ..Billy Elliot' on BroadwayImage and video hosting by TinyPicDirector Stephen Daldry, left, and musician Elton John, arrive to the Broadway opening of their show Billy Elliot The Musical, in New York, Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008. (AP Photo/Stuart Ramson) (Stuart Ramson - AP)NEW YORK -- Elton John still can't believe he's a Broadway hitmaker.

The 61-year-old musician marveled at his success Thursday night at the opening of "Billy Elliot." He composed the score for that show, "Aida" and "The Lion King," which is still playing on the Great White Way.

"I'm looking up at the street and I'm seeing the sign for ..The Lion King,' and I'm standing here and I'm thinking, ..I had never thought in a million years I'd ever be standing in Broadway and talking about something I'd written for the stage," said John, beaming with pride.

John, accompanied by partner David Furnish, said he'd rather write a musical than record an album because he likes having a story line and characters.

"I love it _ but I've got a lot to learn," he said. "I'm a novice at this."

"Billy Elliot," at the Imperial Theater, is based on the popular 2000 movie about a young boy who longs to dance but lives in the bleak coal-mining area of Northern England. His story is set against the backdrop of a bitter miners' strike.

"It's a triumph over adversity. It's something beautiful coming out of something tragic," John mused about the show, which has had successful runs in London and Sydney, Australia.

The role of Billy has been cast with three actors _ David Alvarez, Trent Kowalik and Kiril Kulish _ rotating the physically demanding part.

NEW YORK, NY --
Sir Elton John has never been one to shy away from controversy, but now he has a project in the works that could make even him blush.

On the eve of the opening of his musical “Billy Elliot” on Broadway, Elton spoke with GQ’s Men. Style. com blog about what he has planned in the third act of his life.

Amongst other projects, he said that he’s “got to try and write a film musical for Ben Stiller,” which is, “about a guy on Broadway who is gay, has HIV and AIDS, and has to go back and face his wife and his kids that he left. It’s very funny.”

“It wasn’t sounding funny, so far…” his interviewer replied.

“No, it’s very funny,” Sir Elton responded. “The premise doesn’t sound funny, but it is. All right?”

Amongst other topics, Elton pointed out to GQ that he doesn’t actually like most musicals.

“I like some of the classic ones,” he admitted. “‘West Side Story’, for me, is the greatest musical ever written. But I don’t like forced fun. I’m more drawn to tragedy than ‘Let’s all have a great time.’ And I’m not keen on the music in musicals sometimes. I’m quite fussy about it. I don’t really like them unless I’m involved in them, for some reason.”

Elton also said that he’s still planning his long-rumored collaboration with rapper Eminem.

“I was going to write with him, but then Proof was shot dead,” he explained. “That was the day I was going. That wasn’t a very happy situation. He’s in a much better frame of mind right now, so I’m going to pop down and see him when I’m playing in Canada for a few days. Just hang out with him for a day or so. But I plan to record next year.”

Elton also said that he’s going to do a project with producer Mark Ronson and go on the road again with Billy Jo

Image and video hosting by TinyPicElton John is known for his outlandish dress sense, having worn out-there outfits over the years. His party clothes aren't the only ones that can be extreme, however — even in his leisure time, Elton likes to mix things up. Looking surprisingly fresh after his Oscars fun, Elton wowed us again with bright colours and unique touches. What do you think of his downtime style: does it rock your world or make you feel giddy?

READ THIS ARTICLE IT'S ABOUT ELTON..............MONTPELIER, Vermont --
Ben & Jerry’s has done it again.

Hoping to honor rocker Elton John before his first-ever Vermont performance, Vermont’s crazy-cool confectioner has whipped up a flavor just for him — “Goodbye Yellow Brickle Road.”

The limited-batch ice cream, made from “an outrageous symphony of decadent chocolate ice cream, peanut butter cookie dough, butter brickle and white chocolate chunks,” is a take-off on his 1970s album and song “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.”

It will be available from July 18 to July 25 in the company’s Vermont scoop shops, with proceeds going to the Elton John AIDS Foundation, officials said Tuesday.

It’ll also be doled out in cups, cones and dishes at John’s sold-out Champlain Valley Expo show Monday.

The Burlington-based ice cream maker — whose rock ‘n’ roll-themed products have honored late Grateful Dead guitarist Jerry Garcia (“Cherry Garcia”) and Vermont-bred jam rockers Phish (“PhishFood”) — wanted to toast John because he was finally getting around to playing the Green Mountain State.

He’s performed in every other U.S. state.

“It’s hard to cram 50 years of musical history that Elton John brings to the table in one pint,” said Sean Greenwood, a spokesman for Ben & Jerry’s Homemade Holdings Inc.

John collaborated, and has given his stamp of approval to the ice cream, even though he hasn’t actually tasted it, Greenwood said.

“He said, ‘Chocolate and peanut butter, guys, if you can make something like that work,”’ said Greenwood.

Tickets for the show — priced at $75 to $135 — are sold out.
