Wednesday, August 16, 2006 marks the 29th anniversary of the day Elvis left the building. Since that unforgettable day, the memory of The King has been kept alive through memorials and events at Graceland, in Chicago, and throughout the world. The 3rd week of every August, since 1977, has come to be known around the world as Elvis Week.
Since 1977, Chicagoland has been celebrating Elvis Week wih a wide variety of special events and concerts. âThe Elvis Spectacularâ concert series originated in Chicago, when Elvis Performer, Mark Hussman, teamed up with the brand new House of Blues. for Chicago's 20th Anniversary Elvis Spectacular in 1997. The City of Chicago celebrated the 25th Anniversary Elvis Spectacular at Navy Pier's Skyline Stageâ¦This year's 29th Anniversary Elvis Spectacular, takes place on Wednesday, August 16th at Chicago's Legendary PARK WEST in Lincoln Park!!!! The Park West has hosted historic concerts and musical superstars, featuring artists like U2 since 1977. The event commemorates the 29th Anniversary of the passing of Elvis Presley on August 16, 1977. The annual Elvis Spectacular concert will feature authentic guitars, fantastic musicians, dazzling dancers, and realistic outfits in a musical re-creation that highlights the most spectacular era of Elvis' career. Chicago's Very Own, Mark Hussman was selected as "..1 Elvis" by America Online. He has performed onstage with Bono and U2, Olivia Newton-John, Shania Twain and Wynonna and Naomi Judd. He has been featured on CNN World News, and in Rolling Stone Magazine, as well as in The Smithsonian. "Mark Elvis," as he is known in Chicago, is enthusiastically endorsed by Elvis fans across the globe, including U2's Bono and the legendary, Cher. Mark Hussman is best known in the United States as producer and headliner of the biennial "Elvis Spectacular'' Concert Series. Mark Elvis began his career in Chicago upon winning the "All-Elvis Championship" in 1993. From 1993 to 1998, he performed at the United Center during the golden years of the Chicago Bulls. In 1997, Hussman wrote and starred in the critically acclaimed holiday musical, "Christmas with the King'' at Pipers Alley. Every summer, since it's inception in '97, Mark headlines Chicago's ever popular, "Elvis is Alive" ELVIS 5KÂ Concert and Celebration, in Lincoln Park! Mark produced the first Elvis Spectacular, which continues to this day, twice a year, every year. Mark performs throughout the United States and abroad, and currently stars in the hit show, "Elvisland!" every Thursday at The Canoe Club in Orland Park. The World's Greatest Elvis Tribute Band, "Anthony Smith's Guitar Street Orchestra" will be featured in the ELVIS SPECTACULAR! This magnificent band is considered by most Elvis Performers and many of Elvis' own musicians to be the premier Elvis Tribute Band in the entire world. Our Musical Director / Lead Guitarist, Anthony Smith was the winner of Chicagoland's "Hottest Guitarist" Competition. He's appeared with Waylon Jennings, Buck Owens, The Sweet Inspirations, and The Jordanaires! Anthony, and members of the orchestra, are endorsed by, and frequently perform alongside members of Elvis' original T.C.B. Band. The Guitar Street Orchestra includes a harmony vocalist group and a brass section. This famous ensemble of musicians perform Elvis' music around the world, and in Las Vegas.
Ever popular Chicago radio star, Buzz Kilman, of The Steve Dahl Show, returns to host THE ELVIS SPECTACULAR! Known to the Chicago Elvis crowd as "Buzzvis," Mr. Kilman will once again serve as Master Of Ceremonies. Buzz is the leader of Chicago's "All Bubba Blues Band." Amy "Cher" Hohimer, Madeline Antic, and Patty Elvis return once again, along with The beautiful, Las Vegas Style, Ann-Margrock Dancers! For this year's concert, we're thrilled to announce the return of the internationally acclaimed Polynesian dance troupe, The Barefoot Hawaiians! This concert promises to have some surprise Celebrity Guest Performers as well!

The Elvis Spectacular began in Chicago, during the 20th Anniversary in 1997.
