After over 9 years of releasing what is painstakingly called “adult contemporary music” as Luciar, Lucy Kalantari took a turn for something completely different. In comes Elwood Emission, an electronic, industrial-goth act poking at your hidden inner rage with tantalizing songs and wailing ukuleles. (You may be asking: Ukuleles?!?! Yes well, her hands are small and so are ukuleles, and besides they sound great with distortion. )
Self-produced and self-engineered, Ode to the Ego unleashes technology-driven aural geekdom, making for a highly stimulating listen. Be sure to check out “Other” inspired by Sergei Lukyanenko’s Night Watch book series — it pulls you from the start with chunky electronic sounds and a memorable hook. Another notable track is “Run,” seemingly able to go on any goth movie soundtrack. “Despicable” will help you expel your secret hatred for that special someone, while “Stillness” inspires a time out.
