E M A L K A Y
Big, bad, heavy: three simple words to describe the sound of one of dubstep’s most complex artists. EMALKAY, b. 1984, is certainly no stranger when it comes to playing left field, taking his own innovative style to a whole other level.
During May 2006, Emalkay unleashed Gut Feeling on BOKA Records, his first ever dubstep release. BOKA founder Professor J-S, who was already familiar with Emalkay’s Morphic Sounds, was quick to snap up the track, which had already been receiving major support from the likes of grime veteran PLASTICIAN.
Following the success of Gut Feeling/ Frequency came Testing The Waters, a hard-hitting, ground-breaking EP consisting of three very distinctive tracks; Bats in the Belfry, Overflow and Super Duper, all of which helped to establish Emalkay as Birmingham’s leading dubstep figure and perhaps one of the most influential pioneers of the heavy dubstep sound. Mecha, released in September 2007, is a tune that has been battered at raves all over the globe to devastating effect, while a more recent single My Story, released April 2008, is arguably Emalkay’s best effort to date.
With support by the likes of Radio 1 DJ’s ZANE LOWE, MARY ANNE HOBBS, and ROB DA BANK, as well as many others - FREQ-NASTY, N-TYPE and even as far out as AMON TOBIN to name but a few- for Emalkay the sky is the limit as he sets his sights for bigger and better things in 2008.
