Katy Humphries - Saxophone / Violin;

Stu van Riel - Electric Bass / Double Bass;

Joel Delphin - Drums / Percussion / Vocals;

InfluencesWe would like to thank Michael Woods for his contribution to the band whilst our much loved Mexicano has gone back to his homeland to touch base for a while, Woodsie is an accomplished musician in his own right and helps create a different flair to the Embers' already eclectic sound.

We now have a two piece horn section and damn it's sounding good, Not to take away anything from our own Leonardo Martinez of course. We cant wait for him to get back and complete the new sound of the Embers....cheers.

   About The Embers
National award winning six piece - The Embers - were formed by long time friends in late 2005 and their eclectic and varied sound can be best described as Roots Fusion. Their multi instrumental mix incorperates elements of Latin, Folk, Reggae and Groove all wrapped up in a kicking live show.

In Sydney 2006, The Embers won the National Campus Band Competition after competing with over 1000 bands from 80 institutions around the country and now join an impressive list of previous winners who include Jebediah, The Vasco Era and Eskimo Joe. As winners of the NCBC, The Embers were awarded studio time with Sony BMG and as a result have produced their debut EP at Woodstock Studios in Melbourne, released in August 2007.

They are also no strangers to playing festivals, their wide ranging appeal has seen them play
The Fall's Festival in 2005
Falls Festival 2006,
MS Fest 2006,
The Southern Roots Festival '07,
The Falmouth Festival and
The Cygnet Folk Festival.
MS Fest 2008

The success of the Embers' original music has also seen them support some great international and national acts such as:
The Violent Femmes,
Dukes of Windsor,
Faker,
True Live,
The Whitlams,
Lior,
Bomba,
The Red Eyes,
The Exploders,
The Rob Sawyer Band and
The Custom Kings.

The Embers look forward to a busy year bringing their sound and live show to the people in 2008.

Road trip is a must.

November?

I'm still hassling Irish in Hobart about giving one of there cover bands the flick for a friday night and putting on The Embers+ The Stoics.

I've emailed Dane about it but I don't suppose it would hurt if you were to mention something as well ;)

Jul 22 2008 4:08 AM

its free. fri 25th at the hub - 1 tamar street

4 bands, in playing order:

lady insane:
young all girl rock band from devonport, won a school band comp a year or two ago i think

the staunches:
new launy-based rock band with lots of seasoned performers (rocket noodle, jimmi steele and the thunda, laim guthrie band. etc)

lakoda:
hobart based rock band, dont know much about them but i have heard them on edge radio, and they have been around for a while

the muddy turds:
Q: what happens when you put the three most annoying members of launys music scene together in a band with a mild mannered talented drummer?
A:; he doesnt complain.
a band that performs with an amazing number of different lineups, you are likely to see beau (the nice guy who is a very talented musician) putting up with:
squid - freak, catfighting noismaker, rubber man, mashes keyboard keys with no musical ability and annoys the audience by crapping on in between songs too much
dinga - thesbian, previous a penis puppeteer performer, likes to jump up at gigs to sing along and fight for the spotlight
yours pooly - a ranga ginga dingalinga with ghonnorhea. i dont even live in launy, yet still recognised as one of the three most annoying people in the launy music scene

a lady gives birth to a child, the doctor says i have good news and bad news.
bad news is your baby was born a ginga. good news, we killed it.

oh, and the turds have a harmonica player who turns up to gigs occasionally too, he is not an annoying person either.
his name is pascal, and if you bought our album you will hear lots of his blows

Feb 4 2008 12:26 AM

Hey friends!

Our new tracks LOOK BACK & DONT RUN are now available as free downloads. Head to our page, hit the JJJ UNEARTHED link, download it, review it, and rock out to it. It will help us get some airplay, and then hopefully we can quit our jobs and become rockstars.

Happy new year!

dora mah

PS:

The wait is over. After 4 long months off Dora Mah return to launch their debut EP. Dora Mah has been one of the word of mouth success stories of 2007, with the name being dropped in any bands to see conversation. Joining Dora Mah Febuary 8 at Ding Dong lounge will be Rincon, Johnny Uppercut & Rumourtism. Dora Mah promise an arena spectacular (does an extra strobe light count?).
