Who are the Emerald City Supporters?
Emerald City Supporters (ECS) are a group of independent supporters of Seattle Sounders FC. Our aim is to support our team and to create a good atmosphere in the stadium. The vision is that the ECS becomes an umbrella organization that incorporates supporter subgroups of all persuasions. If you are thinking of starting a group or need help please contact us via email or on our message boards. Or you can just stand with the ECS without starting a subgroup.
Can I join the ECS?
Yes! We welcome new members. In fact, we are actively reqruiting new people.
How do I join the ECS?
Easy. During the season just show up in our section at Qwest Field. We will stand in the south end general admission sections 121-123, also nicknamed the Brougham End. Before home games a lot of us will also gather at Fuel, a bar just a couple of blocks north of Qwest Field. During the off-season, sign up on our discussion forum and attend one of the off-season events that will be announced there.
Do I have to pay dues for joining?
No. However, we do have a membership package that includes an ECS scarf, an ECS t-shirt, and a membership card that gives you discounts at our sponsors. The membership costs $30 per year. See here (add link) for details.
What is your history?
The ECS was formed in 2005. Back then we supported the now defunct Seattle Sounders of the USL Division 1. We look at Seattle Sounders FC as a direct continuation of the same soccer tradition that the USL club was a part of.
Can I bring my kids to your section?
The supporters section is probably not the best place for young kids - but would be okay if they can handle colorful language and folks jovially drinking and singing.
Where do you get the flags?
We make most of our flags and two pole banners ourselves.
Do I have to sing in the ECS section?
Not necessarily, but it is definitely encouraged, and you will most likely end up wanting to sing anyway. We encourage you to come to the Brougham End and see for yourself if you’re going to like it. It is also okay to stand or sit at the outskirts of the Brougham End so that you can enjoy the atmosphere. A lot of people do this at first and then move to our section, already knowing all our songs.
Where can I get lyrics to your songs?
You can find lyrics to our songs in our Songs section (add link). There you will also find a printable version of the song sheet.
What’s Tifo?
Tifo is short for the Italian word tifoso, meaning supporter. It’s used as a general term to describe flags, banners, confetti, balloons, paper rolls, smoke, flares, scarves, and any display that supports your club. We encourage everyone to make and bring tifo to the match. For the big matches we sometimes make bigger displays or choreographies in a more organized fashion.
Do I have to drink to be in the ECS?
Absolutely not. Though most of the ECS like to drink before, during, and after the game, it is definitely not required to be a part of the ECS. It is however required that you bring the noise and the color!
Are the ECS soccer hooligans?
Absolutely not. The ECS are supporters of Seattle Sounders FC. We hope that violence and hooliganism will never be a part of American soccer.
THE ECS: A bunch of Seattle Sounders pro soccer fans who stand in Section 113 at Qwest Field and chant, sing, wave flags and support our boys! See more below & click on the graphic links!
Next 4 of 5 are on the road. If we can just hang on to some points and stay at least mid table, with out last 7 games at home should help us make a nice push for top of the league again.
