Matt's Interests
|
| General | music, bookstores, coffee, theology, wine, food, Chicago, Washington DC, Macintosh computers, public radio, NPR, good newspapers, choir singing, driving, | | Music | A bit of everything... The Fray, The Killers, Coldplay, U2--those would be some of the recent groups I've liked a lot. I listen to a lot of NPR/public radio, both the news/talk stuff, and the music stuff like World Cafe, which plays a lot of 'indie' stuff. And I suppose you can just call me a church geek, but I do like pipe organ music. | | Movies | Ok, I really actually do enjoy movies, but for whatever reason I just don't get out to see many. Most questions that begin "did you see that movie where...", my answer's gonna be no--*but* that doesn't mean I don't like movies or that I'm not interested in learning or exploring more! | | Television | I don't really watch a whole lot of television right now, often just Will & Grace and Sex In The City re-runs. Oh, and some PBS and occasionally the news (although right now, major network news pales in comparison to NPR or the New York Times and Chicago Tribune websites. So call me a news snob!) |

About me:
Well, so how does one talk about themselves to the random, anonymous, internet audience?
--Well, can one be a 'bon vivant' on a paying-back-student-loans budget? I'm on a mission to find out!
--I like coffee quite a bit, and *good* coffee (read: strong, dark roast) even more.
-- I also like Diet Coke a lot.
--I love music of all sorts. I currently sing in the Bach Chamber Choir here in Rockford and am in to other classical music forms, *but* I also like pop/rock/alternative stuff. I do miss the Q101 and 101.9 The Mix radio stations from Chicago. I really like the variety of stuff they play on World Cafe on NPR.
--Speaking of NPR, I'm an NPR addict, although since moving to Rockford I don't get to listen quite as much as I used to because my driving commute to work is so short.
--I think living downtown is great--in this case Rockford's River District--although I'm still hoping there will be further re-vitalization down here. There are lots of cool places down here, though, like Zambuca and the North End Neighborhood Coffee (well, that's not technically in the River District, but close).
--My friends are quite important to me, even though they're mostly spread out all across the country: Maine, Michigan, Rhode Island, Chicago, northern Wisconsin, California, Connecticut, etc. But I'm not one of those people who's on the phone talking to them every minute of the day.
--I do like to travel and explore new places. I love both of the major cities that I've lived in: Chicago and Washington DC
Also, to get it right out on the table, I am a pastor in the United Church of Christ (UCC). For those who may not know about the UCC, we're pretty liberal/progressive in our political, social, and theological outlook--we're the ones who ran the "church bouncer" TV ad a couple of years ago which showed our welcome of gay and lesbian people (among others) and that got rejected by CBS and NBC for being "too controversial". Yes, that's right, I'm a pastor, and yes, you did read correctly over in the "orientation" box.
I moved up here to Rockford in late summer of 2006. I lived in Chicago for 3 of the 4 year before that, as I was in school at Chicago Theological Seminary, taking a year in the middle of that in Washington DC for a full-time internship year.
Anything else...? Maybe more later...

Who I'd like to meet:
Well, still being fairly new to Rockford, I'm definitely looking to start building friendships and connections with people around my own age (say, maybe 22 or 23 to 30-ish) around the area, as they say--not being in school, and given the kind of job I have, I don't have an automatic social network.
I don't tend to just add random people as MySpace friends, though--we should have at least something in common (and what's with the randoms sending you a message that only says "Hey"--that's helpful for figuring out if we should be 'friends'.)
Anyway... meeting Mr. Right wouldn't be bad either...
