In Modern Times....Spiked Punch is the name, reggae is our game. We fucking willed ourselves into reggae musicians, except for Mike who was already one, and I gotta say it feels real good. Like I'm pretty sure this means we are going to conquer the world with our good vibes. Once Nick starts drumming we will be a 5 piece, with Sophie on deck to provide background vocals, thereby making us a 6 piece reggae ensemble. She will one day be replaced by 3 large black women who are all 20-40 years old than the rest of us, but don't tell her that yet. Our drum kit is going to be 2 kick drums, one with a tambourine on it, a djembe, and probably some bongos and other accouterments. Don't say it wont happen, because everything else we have said will happen has happened so far. Currently we are playing shows around town, and would probably be very down to play with your band at Flamingo Cantina or Club 1808 (reggae HQs) if you like. I gotta say, I'm pretty fucking psyched.
...In Recent Times (Aug 2009) EMHU toured as a 3 piece called "Spiked Punch." We were a 4 piece, but lost our drummer Max when he had to go to college in Portland. In the future there is about a 60% chance we will be a 9 piece reggae band, competing with that band "still flyin" on the giant white-boy reggae circuit.
In Ancient Times...The first EMHU show was November 2004 at Beerland. Then there was a show February 2005 at Reds Scoot Inn with Ex-Models. The show with Ex-Models was outside and I was only wearing a bathing suit. My mom was there and I told her next time I would wear socks (it was like 45 degrees outside). I spent the night in a warm tub trying to get the shakes out, but it was a couple days before I felt back to normal. Somehow the ukulele thing ended up with a band including a full horn section, a Dutchman, a country singer from Minnesota (who has since graduated college, returned to Minnesota, and married another EMHU ex-bandmate) and even a juggler for one show. There was this convoluted plot line that would change with every show and eventually collapsed under its own weight. We played a lot of covers. An all ukulele split 7" w/Dumb Haircuts was released.
A bit later on a CD called "So Real" got written, recorded, duplicated, etc. You can buy it here for $10:
There was a tour in May of 2008 with A Faulty Chromosome, and another that August with Reverse X-Rays. July of 2009 we are touring as 3 piece (we = me Dan and Eddy) 2 weeks up to New York, a week in New York, and a Boston show. Then I am going around solo for a while and then who knows what, the future.
