Conversation, newspapers, the smell of dirt, stories, the change of seasons, old-time radio and contemporary music, words, physical labor, whim, silence.
Wielding a voice that defies the size of her body, Emilia Dahlin has carved a name for herself as a unique songstress. Combined with Emilia's storytelling sensibilities, she weaves rootsy acoustic music with a vintage jazz kick. Well-crafted songs are delivered with mesmerizing, sky-rocketing energy in an extraordinary show of musicality and talent.
A classically trained pianist 'till the age of 18, Emilia decided to trade ivory keys for bronze strings and started to pull vocal inspiration from the jazz greats, like Ella and Nina, while following in the storytelling vein of the folk tradition.
Dahlin also joins forces with the dynamic trio of Adam Frederick (upright bass), Seth Kearns (drums), and Maxwell Canlin (lead guitar), all students of jazz parformance. The quartet achieves and original mix of styles and genres with results in roosy, acoustic/folk music that also swings and grooves.

Quotes:
"Emilia's live shows are a lesson in intimacy. Emilia charms her audience to the edge of their seats with her wry smirk and clarion voice -- then drops them to the floor with foot-stomping, head-shaking grooves." -YANKEE MAGAZINE
"A gifted songwriter. . .destinctive and edgy. . .Dahlin's [songs] are hard to pin down. Unlike so many of her singer-songwriter peers, Dahlin's songs aren't immediately identifiable as folk or country or pop. . .A unique talent." -Boston Herald
"With natural charisma that fills up any room she’s in establishes Dahlin as a genuine chanteuse. I dare you not to love it." -Portland Phoenix
"One of the best acts I've heard in years!" -Green Mountain College
"Lyrics. . ., often filled with a rich narrative that features Maine as a backdrop, have certainly contributed to the skyrocketing success of [Emilia Dahlin]. A tour de force effort full of rich vocals and roaring beats. . . this pint size diva has been widely recognized on a national level." -Portland Arts Guide

Opera Mash-Up tonight will (as always) have live recordings of the whole evening. Tonite we are mashing Opera with Funk then our "Noise Encore" will be kicked off with punk (Brain Damage!!). But any of you who have been to these shows knows that we encourage musicans to come up and play and that The Famous Billy records it all.
We would LOVE LOVE LOVE some scatters (no...not poopers) to come out and scat during our funk jam session. So if you have a diddly-bop-do-whop in you, you should come out.
This Tuesday we are featuring Opera singer Rene Turner. Next Tuesday we have Miriam Leigh and the following Tuesday we have Laura Vacari. Brain Damaged promises to have at least two punk groups a night. And our crazy funk band will get you jump-jive-n-whalin.
As always, no cover. FREE! Under 21 welcome. I LOVE NOISE MUSICIANS!!! So come out an join us during our mash program and do a solo set during "Encore Noise". Even if all you have is a kazoo...dont be shy.
Area 7 in Oakland Park. Located at 3809 North Powerline. Used to be called Duck Soup.
We've posted some tunes from our 5/23/09 gig on our
Facebook profile. We're even letting you download it for nothing for
the next couple of days. Why don't you check it out and become a fan of
the band if you're on the Facebook (and who isn't really?)
Here's a listen to what you might hear (the link is a player NOT a spam site.)
Our next "Girls in Bands" show is August 8. As I have said before I would LOVE to have you. The night features experimental, indie and noise music. All the bands have at least one girl in them, hence "Girls in Bands".
I know you are going on a Cd tour Emilia. I would love to have you in one of our "Gilrs in Bands" events. I am planning another one August (probably August 8). Right now I am talking to bands Raido Boxer, Totempole, Diet Coke Heads, Waste!, and more. Nothing confirmed yet, but I would love to have you headline this show. Or, if you are in town another weekend, I can book another show around that date.
