Emilia Lajunen has studied at the Sibelius-Academy folk music department in Helsinki. She is known as one of the best fiddle players and musicians of the new folk musician generation. She has succeeded in many solo competitions in folk music and worked with several bands and musicians. She won 2th prize of solo class in NORD 08, Scandinavian Master Competition on November 2008, in Sälen Sweden.
Besides being a musician she has worked in theatre and dance productions and composed music fo puppet theatre (L.Optica, Puupoika).
She currently plays in bands such as Spontaani Vire, Suo, Aigi and Juuri & Juuri. One of her main interests just now is new finnish nyckelharpa music and other experimental works with it. Traditional finnish and swedish folk music and balkan music are her important interests. She is also one of the three dancing fiddlers in a dance show Silmu (premiere 9.12.2004) which is currently fascinating audiences all over Finland and the Nordic countries.
She is now working with new albums, projects and concerts for example from bands Suo, Juuri & Juuri and duo Filippo Gambetta & Emilia Lajunen. On spring 2010 she will have " The first concert" in Sibelius Academy with guestmusicians like Eero Grundström and young italian accordionmaster Filippo Gambetta.
Emilia Lajunen on menestynyt useissa kansanmusiikin kilpailuissa, hän on mm. Vuoden nuori viulupelimanni 1996, ja sijoittunut Kansanmusiikin- ja laulun soolokilpailussa 2. sijalle vuonna 2002. Viimeisin menestys tuli pohjoismaisessa mestaruuskilpailussa NORD 08, missä Emilia saavutti soolosarjan toisen sijan.
Tuolloin Lajusen vierailijoina kuullaan mm. Eero Grundströmiä ja italialaisen vähärivismusiikin nuorta taitajaa Filippo Gambettaa.

After you've finished here, you may like to hear this folk-carol on myspace... Poem 230 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (see my blog for details): CHRISTMAS SUNG SIMPLY
As gospellers have said, Beneath signalling skies, On land dusty to tread, A trough in a stable Was the strawy first-bed Of a divine baby - The forgiving Godhead.
A season for new hope - There then and here now; The yuletide of goodwill - There then and here now.
In respect of this chance, Beneath bright or dark skies, Faith's the star that we glance Attending Christ's churches And trying to enhance, With singing and ritual, Our God-loving stance.

Since my picture won at the monthly level & Round 1, I got nominated for the LongHair Hawtie of the Year. Round 2 (Finals!) ends in a few days and... - was hoping for those 6 votes from you ;)

Just look for this picture on the last row:
And these are the rules on how to 'do it' ...
Yeah, you do need to get accepted as a friend before you can vote, but they’re nice girls (the hawtie folks), no harm whatsoever :)
Thank you so much already,
In appreciation,
- Armand
PS. a very 'evil' thought - maybe you can tell your friends to vote too? ;)
I really do! Your sound is great and I think really original. It must be great to play in so many bands! I will try to see you play somewhere when I am back in Finland again, if only time allows. All the best to you and have a beautiful week!
Hej Emilia! Stor kram
