"thank god there are bands as good as this .there was more sweat and energy in this rock n roll show than a thousend simpering indie boybands." -
Artrocker
"Highly threatening, touchingly poignant, explosive, revolutionary and downright fucking dangerous." - Gordon Raphael (Strokes/Regina Spektor producer)
"Peerlessly iconic." - Venue Magazine
"The tom-boy rockabilly love-child of Nick Cave and KD Lang with Scotty Moore on guitar. Fantastic!" - Tom Robinson (BBC Radio 6)
with a sound that ranges from heartbreaking country to ferocious rockabilly punk,Emily Breeze has been alternately soothing and ravaging the ears of west country gig-goers for the past few years.
Emily's influences ranges from the audio terrorism of the Birthday Party and the Stooges to the glossy melodrama of Scott Walker and Roy Orbison via Bob Dylan's arctic observations. But the 20-something Bristol-based musician adds a 21st century sensibility plus a feminine sexiness to these impeccable (anti)heroes.Backed by her blistering band its all delivered in a stunning voice that veers from a nicotine soaked whisper to a motorcycle snarl.
"I never understood people who found artists like Leonard Cohen or Hank Williams depressing", Emily explains. "I find their acknowledgement of mistakes, cracks, flaws, love, loss and loneliness thrilling, and it validates my own shambolic existance. I found my comrades in a darkened corner, Ugly, skinny, dirty and wickedly funny."
Emily's own songs from the rollicking suckerpunch of Monday's right hook to the lynchian lament of The old grand peir
leave you in no doubt that she's more than fit to carry the torch of her influences into a new generation. And that story telling gift she has might well be genetic: legendary Irish scribe (and drinker) Brendan Behan is her great uncle .
Her badlands EP released last year, was described as "brilliant" by radio ones Huw Stephens, and if that collection of songs leaves you wanting more theres good news - Emily is currently working on her debut album "The Penny Arcade", due to hit the shops later this year. She explains what fans can expect from this eagerly awaited long player:
I want to make music that transmits a viseral expirience;somewhere between a punch in the guts and a tender tragic caress.Theres nothing more beautiful than someone whos up against the ropes."
Live Emily has supported artists as diverse as Devandra Banhart,Imelda May and the Noisettes, and her headline shows are regulary packed with an ever growing army of devotees.
