Emma began writing songs at the tender age of eleven using the basic piano skills she picked up as a youngster. During her highschool years, Emma continued to learn piano at Vivid Keyboard Studios and maintained her craft as an avid songwriter. She became enamored with audio engineering and production after recording a few low budget demos in local recording studios around her hometown. She pursued these interests at Fanshawe College's Music Industry Arts program; a world renowned school for music production and sound engineering.
Emma is a talented recording artist and soulful songwriter. Her haunting vocals and skillful lyrics show a true blossoming talent. After graduating in April she made the move to the big city and is based in downtown Toronto where she is currently recording her new album.
My influences are all over the map. My all time favourite singer/songwriter is Holly McNarland. She is my idol when it comes to music. I also really enjoy
Sarah McLachlan, Norah Jones, Katie Melua, and Chantel Kreviazuk and have learned a lot from each of them just through listening.
My favourite songwriters would have to be John Lennon, Tracy Chapman, Sarah Slean, and Bob Dylan. All of those artist's have written songs that are lyrically captivating and melodically addictive, for me at least. I wish I had the range of Janis Joplin. Sometimes when I have a cold I can come close but I think she is untouchable. She has so much power and emotion behind every word she sings. I try to take the "Joplin" approach in the studio when I'm behind the mic.
I've also been inspired by many men in music. I grew up listening to Phil Collins because he was my Dad's favourite and even though his career is Disney based now he was/is a great pop song writer. I also have always been interested in Matt Good's career/music, he is such an interesting person and I have been in awe of his music many times. Our Lady Peace's albums Naveed and Clumsy got a lot of play when I was first learning to write as well because Rain's vocal approach floored me. All albums that followed I never could get into as much.
I have been compared to artist's like Tori Amos, Dido, Evanescence, Holly McNarland, and Chantel Kreviazuk. I am a pop/rock writer and my vocals can range from soaring highs and low beautiful lilts to me angrily spitting out words. I am diverse when it comes to genres. I am most easily compared to Evanescence when it comes to a lot of my rock songs, while my pop songs are a lot like Machelle Branch or Avril Lavignes. I enjoy writing for both genres, and even write Adult/Contemporary material now and again.

Thanks again for finding the backing of my earring in the stairwell! I found the front half in the collar of my coat between the zippers. I was pretty lucky and shocked that it stayed in there!
Em, the album's going fantastically... it's great to hear from you again, i'm currently in the process of booking spring-summer shows that i'll be hosting in kitchener and cambridge, hopefully all will go well and i'll be asking you out to them to play soon enough.
I just had Davide from jacksoul in to play drums on the album, and Dave Tolley from Nine Mile,, he's also wicked... excitement's in the air as far as the album goes i'll say that for sure. That's a very nice profile picture. Say hi to ur boy btw :) -Todd
