Born April 5th, 1992 in British Columbia, Emmalyn Estrada began singing/performing by the age of 6 years old. She got her start by taking vocal training from various teachers, helping her further comprehend the art of singing. She performed for as many talent competitions, family events, school plays, local concerts, and talent shows as she could. She went on competing in a local “American Idol-like” talent competition, winning first place in “Filipino Canadian Idol” in 2003 only 11 years old, where she performed the song “And I am telling you” impressing the judges and audience with her vocal range and ability. Since then, Emmalyn performed for many local events and concerts in Vancouver, performing in large venues such as Plaza of Nations, Michael J Fox Theatre, and Queen Elizabeth Theatre.
In 2005, at the age of 12, Emmalyn won “New Music West,” a singing competition held by the popular Vancouver radio station the beat 94.5. As the prize, she got to record 1 song with some of Vancouver’s most excellent producers Adam H., Sean Hosein, Dane DeViller, Steve Smith, and Anthony Anderson.
Emmalyn’s family soon acknowledged both her talent and dedication. No longer a stranger to the music business, Emmalyn opened up to the other aspects of the entertainment business. Taking acting lessons and hip-hop/jazz dance lessons.
Soon after, Emmalyn was chosen to be one of the opening acts for “The Queens on Fire World Tour” by Asia’s songbird, Regine Velasquez, featuring Pops Fernandez.
By this point, Emmalyn has been able to create a name for her self. Making her self known not only to the Filipino Community, but to all communities. But she soon felt the need to take on a bigger crowd. The Estrada family made the tough decision to move to Los Angeles, California for Emmalyn to chase her dream of becoming a singer/actress. Shortly after their arrival, Emmalyn competed in “iPOP! (International Presentation of Performers) Los Angeles 2007,” winning second place in the “iSING” portion. Capturing the attention of many talent agencies, Emmalyn and her sister Elise managed to star in a DISNEY television series roughly based on their musical careers while dealing with every-day life. Subsequently, the Estrada family moved back to Canada.
Now at the age of 17, Emmalyn has faced more endeavors and adversity than your average teenager. Due to her consistent travelling and busy schedule, Emmalyn enrolled in a Home-schooling program. Remaining humble and grounded, she manages to focus on her education, but at the same time, give commitment and time to following her dream. With her musical influences consisting of different music genres including Beyonce, Christina Aguilera, Michael Buble, Alicia Keys, Keri Hilson, Kelly Clarkson, Fergie, Demi Lovato, Paramore, The Pussycat Dolls, Taylor Swift, Rihanna and Lady gaga, it’s unmistakable that Emmalyn’s taste in various music effects her own style of performing/singing.
