I am interested in dark fantasy e.g. mythical creatures, beasts, fairies and mermaids. I am also very interested in the beauty of the human form and enjoy drawing people from all walks of life. This is also why I enjoy drawing transvestites and burlesque dancers. Personally I feel they go against conventions and because of this are much more exciting to draw. I love musicals and theatre - especially those that are visually rich like Moulin Rouge and Cabaret. I love childrens stories including anything by Road Dhal. Tim Burton's - The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy is a collection of short stories which has inspired me in my own work. I also enjoy Harry Potter because of it's creativity and imagination. Finally, I am very interested in History - especially that of Old London (the Black Death, Jack The Ripper and the Penny Dreadfuls) and in the origins of nursery rhymes. My passions are all reflected in my work in some way because I feel I am better artist when I am emotionally attached to something that I am working on.

Thankyou for visting my site. My name is Emma McCarthy and I am a freelance animator, artist and designer. I have recently graduated from Goldsmiths College, University of London, where I majored in Media and Communications. I specialised in Electronic Graphics and Animation where I developed my skills in 2D animation - Digital and Stop Motion. I produced two animated shorts, "Bang Bang" and "Oranges and Lemons", which have been entered for various awards. I also developed my skills as a designer & artist, and have produced a substantial portfolio consisting of Portrait drawings, cartoon sketches, acrylic paintings and digital work. I prefer to work with ink, pencil, acrylic and a graphics tablet...but often experiment in Kohl, Charcoal, Watercolour and Felt.
