Emily's Interests
|
| General | Reading, writing, photography, pottery, watching tv and movies, traveling, playing boardgames, bargain shopping
| | Music | I love music, but sadly don't listen to as much as I could be. My favorite musician is of course my husband, Jordan. He didn't pay me to say that, he really is! Plus, my music tends to consist of what ever he is listening to at the time that I actually like. Current favorites: Fall Out Boy, Secondhand Serenade, Natasha Bedingfield, Duffy, Katy Perry, James Blunt, Sean Kingston, Green Day, David Cook, and most things they play on the radio.
| | Movies | I am a huge movie fan. Rarely find a movie I actually hate. Just tend to like some more than others. I blame it on my grandmother who took me to the movies every weekend growing up and at over 80 she still goes frequently and has much love for the classics, such as Clueless ;-)
Current Favorites: any Romantic Comedy and historical period films. Love absolutely anything based on a Jane Austen book, The Notebook, Sweet Home Alabama, 27 Dresses, and He's Just Not That Into You.
I'm not afraid to admit I love: most 80s teen flicks (Pretty in Pink, Sixteen Candles, Cant Buy Me Love, etc.), most current teen flicks (Chasing Liberty, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Princess Diaries, A Cinderella Story, Bring it On, most ABC Family Channel Original movies (Celeste in the City, Crimes of Fashion, Cutting Edge 2, Lucky 7, Pizza My Heart, etc.), and even Disney Channel Original movies (Cow Belles, Get a Clue, the Zenon Trilogy)... Did I mention I write young adult fiction novels: these are mostly for research! Yeah right, actually amongst my friends any of these have their own genre titled none other than "emily movies"--wow I feel so honored)
Movies I couldn't get enough of growing up: Savannah Smiles, Troop Beverly Hills, Dirty Dancing, Cutting Edge
I really can't name them all. I like way to many.
Oh and I am an imdb.com addict.
| | Television | Pretty much anything...Chelsea Lately, Gossip Girl, The Hills, How I Met Your Mother, Bones, Heroes, CSI, Cold Case, One Tree Hill, ABC Family Movies, House Hunters (and really anything on HGTV), American Idol, So you Think you can Dance, Amazing Race, Game Show Network...
Shows currently not on (at least other than re-runs): Gilmore Girls, Veronica Mars, Tru Calling, Moonlight, Friends, Everwood, Crossing Jordan, Missing, Beautiful People, the original Double Dare, Full House, What I Like About You
Okay...let's just say it...I watch WAY too much TV, but I'm making up for all the times I didn't have cable or a TV in the past. So I guess, I'm even.
| | Books | I'm really into Historical Romances and Young Adult Fiction right now. However, I also love mysteries and chick lit. Asking me to pick a favorite book among my favorite authors, would probably be harder then asking them what book out of their collection they love the most, so you'll have to settle for a list of favorite authors.
Authors who do every genre I love: Meg Cabot (a fellow Hoosier and someone who is older then me, but still thinks like a teenager like I do... what's not to love), Michele Jaffe, Sarah Mlynowski, Niki Burnham, Ally Carter, Mari Mancusi
YA Authors I love: Megan McCafferty, Sarah Dessen (The Truth About Forever and This Lullaby--absolutely amazing!!), Ann Brashares, Cecily Von Ziegesar, Lisi Harrison, Zoey Dean, Louise Rennison
Historical Romance Authors I love: Jane Austen, Margaret Moore, Julia London, Jillian Hunter
Mystery Writers I love: Laura Lippman, Robin Burcell, and Lisa Miscione
Only male on the list (sorry to the males): Nicholas Sparks
(although Truman Capote's "In Cold Blood" in a strange twist from my other favorites, will always be one of the most influential books to me for some strange reason--probably more to do with when I read it, but still great nonetheless).
The list could go on... |

About me:
I’m an aspiring teen chick lit novelist and am currently working on finding an agent for my novels. I heartily welcome any advice on writing for teens, finding an agent, or any stories on the subject, either pleasant or not.
So far most of my career paths have been in marketing, advertising, youth programming, and event planning. Right now I’m pursuing a career as a youth librarian, in addition to, the whole novelist bit.
* I love books…
* I love to learn…
* I love gossip…
* I love stories…
* I love to use “…” way too much.
* I’m the self-proclaimed queen of teen movies and TV…
* I love my husband for being himself, writing punk songs for my books, and for also obeying my “writing…stay out” sign (among other things)…
* I love to travel and my new goal is to visit a different country a year. It's lasted three years so far, and I'd love to keep going...
