The Empty Cages Collective (ECC) is a New York-based animal and environmental advocacy organization. ECC aims to cultivate a culture where animals are recognized as fellow sentient beings worthy of respectful and compassionate treatment. Who I'd like to meet:

Just one of Empty Cages Collective's projects is doing intensive, high-volume Trap-Neuter-Release. Since it's inception in January 2008, volunteers have helped well over 1,000 cats be spayed or neutered, as well as providing space for their recovery at the ECC recovery space in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. nowhere fast	Nov 24 2008 2:24 AM TUESDAY 11/25: Anti-Thanksgiving and Letter-Writing for Non-cooperating Green Scare Codefendants! This Tuesday join us in an anti-Thanksgiving celebration as we support the non-cooperating Green Scare co-defendants who were arrested on December 7th, 2005; environmental activists and warriors Daniel McGowan, Jonathan Paul, Briana Waters, Sadie (Joyana Zacher), and Exile (Nathan Block). Why an "anti" Thanksgiving? Because of it's roots in indigenous genocide and its tradition of ritualistic turkey slaughter, as well as the awkward annual get-togethers where your extended family all quizzes you on why you aren't married with children yet (what, like that's just mine?) we shun the tradition, but still love the food. We will be having a homemade, candlelit Un-turkey dinner with trimmings, and none of that weird mauve gel that tries to pass itself off as "cranberry sauce". As for the pilgrims, colonizers, snitches and other "informants", FBI witch-hunters, canned gel, and animal murderers, we say: THANKSFORNOTHING! The deal, as always, is that you come bringing only yourself (and your friends and comrades), and we provide you with a delicious vegan meal, information about a Political Prisoner or POW or group of prisoners as well as all of the letter-writing materials and prisoner-letter-writing info you could ever want to use in one evening. In return, you write a thoughtful letter to a Political Prisoner or Prisoner of War of your choosing or, better yet, keep up a long-term correspondence. Directions to 1-2-3
