Beatles first and foremost, "Exile"-era Stones, Zeppelin, Who, Supergrass, Blur, Oasis, Bowie, Italian pop, Blues, Film scores, Brian Wilson, John Barry, Ambient music, Elton John, Brian Eno, Baroque music, Glam rock...just about anything that spills out of a speaker and into my ear. I like artists that are always changing....Bowie, Beck, Damon Albarn (of Blur, Gorillaz and most recently, The Good, The Bad, and The Queen) as examples....they are "genre-less" and always surprising you with their next project, as it never sounds like the previous one.
An Architect by day, and multi-instrumentalist and songwriter by night, John Fotiadis (Yanni to his friends) has written and recorded music for film and theater and TV.
His new project "Empty City Squares", is a musical vehicle to showcase a series of songs written between 2005 and 2008. While Yanni's influences cover many musical genres, the music he has always loved first and foremost is British rock, primarily from the 60s and 70s. Strains of Badfinger, David Bowie, The Kinks, Elton John, The Who, The Stones, and of course the Beatles, to name a few, can be heard popping in and out of these songs.
