About Emptyhead (Live @ The Pier Fri/Sat, July 17/18!!)
..
"Our Mind is like a Mirror on which the Dust of thought settles; our practice is to polish it to keep the reflection pure.”
Formed in May of 1996, Emptyhead, based out of Portland, ME, plucks from many different musical influences and genres to create an inspiring blend of
hard rock that is purely their own.
Each member brings a unique shade to the canvas, with Bryon Clapp on vocals, Doug Clapp on bass guitar and backing vocals, Keith Martin on lead and rhythm
guitar and backing vocals, Romain Charette on rhythm guitar and Mark Dugal on drums. Hiding behind a pseudonym for stupidity, the name “Emptyhead,”
taken from a drawing created by Doug which depicts a head with “MT” on the forehead, actually portrays a state of open-mindedness.
From extensive touring throughout New England to garnering massive radio and magazine support to inclusions on various compilation CDs to a website with over 1200 visits per week (www.emptyheadmusic.com,) Emptyhead has had quite a substantial amount of milestones throughout their existence. Original CDs such as the 5-song teaser demo Spilt (1999,) the embracing full-length debut Who’s Talking… …Who’s Listening (2000,) the acoustic EP A Single Thread (2001,) and the single release of fan favorite “No Real Americans” (2003) have been exceptionally received and have had great success, with WT… …WL selling over 6000 copies and winning Klarity Multimedia’s Millennium Contest in 2000. Emptyhead has also performed at such events as Locobazooka X, Bumstock 2003, United Way benefit Baystock 2003, a charity show for victims of the Rhode Island Nightclub Fire, which was completely organized by Emptyhead, and took first place at the first annual WTOS Battle of the Bands. Emptyhead has also shared the stage with such national acts as Zakk Wylde’s Black Label Society, Skid Row, Blue Oyster Cult, Ra, Dope, Lo-Pro, and Brand New Sin, among many others.
With musical influences ranging from Alice In Chains, Tool, Guns N’ Roses, Stone Temple Pilots and Metallica to Pearl Jam, Jimi Hendrix, Peter Gabriel,
Jane’s Addiction and Led Zeppelin, Emptyhead’s ultimate portrait is that of honesty. No one member is more important than another and each follows the
scripture of "Your lack of faith can't kill it..." (Emptyhead’s "Cellarfull".) To sum it all up, just think of Emptyhead as sensitive yet aggressive...
truthful and heartfelt... overflowing with passion and soul... undeniable sincerity. Oh, and remember…
“No Mind, No Mirror, No Dust.”
