Emrand Henry – messenger, minister, entertainer, and militant for Christ is one of St. Lucia’s finest singers. Born Zephirinus Henry on August 26, 1979 in the village of Millet, Emrand started singing at the age of thirteen in church and community concerts.
He was later discovered after entering a singing competition called Cable & Wireless Starquest 2003. This annual show was invented to showcase up and coming artistes, and was televised weekly, dwindling down the contestants to the final winner. Emrand won the competition with an original reggae piece called “What is Going On.” As the winner of the competition he traveled to New York City to make an appearance on BET’s 106 & Park.
This achievement made Emrand a household name, performing in large shows in his homeland and the Caribbean.
He has shared the stage with the likes of Maxi Priest, Kenny Rogers, Christafari, Fred Hammond, Kasaav, Prodigal, Sherwin Gardner, Lt. Stitchie and many more.
In 2007 he was invited to France and Belgium to represent St. Lucia together with other French speaking Caribbean Countries at a show called the Franco-Follies. There he “wowed” a crowd of 21,000 people backed by some of France’s best musicians. Regionally he has performed in Trinidad&Tobago, Barbados, Grenada, Martinique, British Virgin Islands, USVirgin Islands, St. Marteen, Dominica, Antigua, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Vincent and Guyana.
He has released many noteworthy singles such as “No retreat, No Surrender” and “Revolution” off of his 2009 release No Retreat No Surrender, “Thank You,” “Don’t Go,” and “Still Standing,” with many more equally outstanding tracks still in his arsenal. He has done collaborations with Level 4, Mr. Mention and many others, and has tracks on a few compilation CDs in St. Lucia and regionally.
With music that focuses on Social Commentary, Love, Unity and Peace in the genres of Reggae, Dancehall, and Soca, Emrand always brings out a message of change to the young people, to whom he really relates and connects. Emrand exudes the energy and stage presence of a seasoned professional with a voice that pierces straight to the soul.
