Established in July 1999, Endgame was conceived as a vehicle for exploratory improvisation. Initially envisaging a 'kosmische' sound akin to bands such as Lightwave and early Tangerine Dream but with the attitude of a serious avant-garde outfit such as Morphogenesis, Endgame have in fact forged a sonic identity of their own, at times stepping into realms largely unheard of.
Endgame consist of the brothers Alan and Steve Freeman, who also work together under the project name of Alto Stratus, along with Jim Tetlow who previously played alongside Alan in Leicester's psychedelic/poetry outfit Shapeshifter where they realised they shared a common musical ground. Nearly a decade later and with over fifty CD releases carefully selected from their archive, Endgame are still going strong and have played live on numerous occasions. Here the ethic of spontaneous improvisation is the same as that of their prolific studio output, the only difference being the presence of the audience. They have also integrated guest musicians to form a variety of side projects and all three members are active participators in Leicester's thriving underground music scene as well as engaging in solo projects.
