like all of shalloboi's releases, 'dandelions' has come together over a molasses-slow process of over three years begun by accidents and experiments culminating in a six month period of intense creative focus with countless fake completions and last minute changes. 'dandelions' is also the first release of two planned for 2009. it was recorded almost entirely at the panda room (basically their home in chicago, il) and the entire process was done in the analog realm- recorded on a cassette 8-track and mixed down to 1/4" 2-track tape. as with last year's 'down to sleep' all of the reverbs were achieved with the use of naturally reverberant spaces. musically it continues on from 'down to sleep' with it's dense drones, sludgy guitars, loud/quiet dynamics and echoey male/female harmonies mixed with grounding acoustic elements in the form of strings, glockenspiel melodies and minimal drums. it also contains the first hints of where the band is headed for upcoming release 'all hope is blind'- a vinyl-only release planned for the fall that is already more than 3/4's of the way complete- which will feature the strings more prominently as well as highlighting a more spacious, minimal and even organic sound featuring more compact and restrained songs.
Wow you guys are amazing! I was just realizing that I need to buy your other albums- I only have the first one.
I will, I will dont worry..
