Neal James Cowan or Njc as he's better known through out the Edmonton hip-hop scene is a jack of all trades when it comes to hip-hop music. Njc is a aboriginal show promoter, hip-hop artist, hip-hop producer, song writer and owner of a local known media website called www.edmontonhiphop.com. Njc is a well polished creative song writer. He believes his strength in music stems from his past. Njc lived a tough life growing up in social services and living in a variety of foster homes. Njc has a past on the streets and had a past with drugs and alcohol and was able to make it past his addictions to pursue his music career.Fighting through drug addictions and the deaths of the majority of his family and the daily struggles of street life has made Njc's lyrics true and also powerful and he hopes his songs will help those who went through and are currently going through the same struggles.
Up to this point in Njc's career he established himself as an accomplished hip-hop producer. He produces all types of instrumentals and in 2005 he won the Soundclick Audio Boards Producers Tournament. This was a competition with 200 of soundclick.com's best producers and Njc won each round to win the tournament. Njc is also a very creative song writer and writes and performs each song he records. Njc also owns his own personal studio and records and mixes all of his own songs. Njc also started a website by the name of Edmontonhiphop.com. His concept behind this site was to help out every aspiring edmonton based hip hop artist by making a free networking media website. This site hosts advertisement for shows, advertisement for locally released albums and has a talent show case which plays full version of songs of all local artists who are interested in having there music online. This site has a full listing of local studios,labels and artists,producers anyone relevant to the Edmonton hip hop scene. Njc through the website is establishing him self as a show promoter. In late summer/early fall 2007 he is throwing a charity event concert for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Edmonton to come up with a donation to go towards research. This event is fully backed and is in collaboration with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Edmonton. Njc is doing numerous collaborations with some of the best local talent such as Proveli Paragon, Oozeela and Peep game. Njc will be throwing numerous and performing at multiple shows through out the summer of 2007. Njc is a talented hip-hop musician and waited until 2007 to be the year he makes his talent known.
Njc believes his music has the potential to rise in popularity in the Canadian and global music scene by the power of his lyrics the over all appeal of his songs. As a media owner, producer, hip hop musician and show promoter he is determined to acheive all goals in each area. Njc is currently in the process of applying for grants for his first album which will be named "Complex Simplicity" with the help of Kennedy Jenson of the Alberta Recording Industy Association (ARIA) he is pushing to have his album released by late 2007 or early 2008. With tracks such as Watching Days go by to deeper moving songs such as My Suicide, listening to Njc's music will show you his over all appeal and impact as a serious aboriginal hip-hop musician.
