With much sadness, Elliot Park Atelier announces we'll be closing shop at 609 South 10th Street on Friday April 17, 2009.
Over the past several years, we've given our all (and more) to the local and extended artist communities we've served with pleasure, but find we no longer have the resources to subsidize our beloved atelier while advocating economic recovery in Elliot Park and East Downtown Minneapolis.
Our Grand Finale is scheduled for Friday 4/17. Meanwhile, please stop by for a visit as we wind down over the next several days. Join us for coffee and treats... buy some books and gifts and participate in special events we have planned to celebrate and remember the good times.
For more information, check the calendar page on our website http://www.epatelier.com.
We'll keep the site up and post updates about future plans as they become available.
Thank you all for touching our lives!

blending coffee, culture and community
shar and di welcome you to e.p. atelier
Atelier is French for "Artist's Workshop." The focus of this atelier is to establish an inviting, community gathering place that creates an immediate sense of comfort and camaraderie while encouraging discourse amongst an array of beliefs, philosophies, ages, cultures and talents.
As a retail enterprise, e.p. atelier offers a selection of gift items for sale... used and independent books, jewelry, artwork, pottery, an assortment of fresh roasted coffee beans and exotic loose leaf teas, handmade candles, hats, scarves, shawls...unique, yet affordable gifts.
We serve specialty coffee drinks, tea, chai and bottled soft drinks, soups, sandwiches, salads and baked goods.
e.p. atelier provides wireless internet access and prearranged meeting accommodations to groups. Areas for studying, playing board games, chatting with neighbors or sitting quietly alone are available to all.
e.p. atelier presents live acoustic music featuring local and national artists as well as book and poetry readings, video screenings and other events. Occasionally there will be a nominal charge to cover expenses for certain performances.
Your feedback is important to us. This is your atelier... your artist's workshop... so please! Let us know what you'd like to see more (or less) of and contact us anytime regarding special events you'd like to host.
This high energy, rock/pop ensemble with multi-gendered vocals and intricate arrangements has agreed to come out of hiatus for this special farewell to the atelier stage. Our dear friend Jenny Case, Director of the Girls Rock and Roll Retreat, is joined by Marshall Bolin, Maureen Koenig, Eli Stone and Jake Mohan.
Barbara’s been playing around the Twin Cities since 1994, performing jazz (with Drew Gordon, Lyndy Zabel, David Palmer, and others), reggae/world beat (with One World), rock, opera, musicals, and other various music styles. Her own writing takes on a folk rock flare but generates from a very unique place. She’ll be joined by steady bassman Bill “Honeybee” Hulett and Stan Kipper, leader and Soul Man of New Primitives. Other friends may also join in for this exciting afternoon.
Wednesday April 15th – 5:30pm: 3rd Place Block Club Meeting
Recently awarded a Building Blocks Award from the 1st Precinct Minneapolis Police Department, our block club was named by Crime Prevention Analyst, Luther Krueger, in recognition of urban sociologist Ray Oldenburg’s philosophy that Third Places such as main streets, pubs, cafes, and coffeehouses are the heart of a community's social vitality and the foundation of a functioning democracy. They promote social equality by leveling the status of guests, provide a setting for grassroots politics, create habits of public association, and offer psychological support to individuals and communities. During this meeting we will discuss alternative Third Place locations to carry the torch for safety in our neighborhood. Crime Prevention Specialist, Renee Allen, leads this discussion.
Friday April 17th – 6pm to ???: E.P. Atelier Farewell Bash with MC Beth Ann Dodd and Bruce Jackson and Friends
We’ll encourage you to get up and tell your stories about what atelier has meant to you over these last five years. All musicians, poets and other artists welcome to join the jam.
Here's a view of the people and things you might find at our atelier...

Thank you to Jen Case for showcasing Half Demon Doll during the R@TD performance on October 10th. This group of teens met at the Girls Rock and Roll Retreat last summer, a program sponsored by MN Women in Music and in November competed and WON the Teen Vogue "Rock Meets the Runway" competition in New York City. Along with prizes provided by Gibson, they have been awarded a one year contract with Wicked Cool Records! Congratulations and good fortune to Half Demon Doll!
Thanks for screening my film at ep. So sorry to hear you're gone. Was planning on going to your open mic too. Maybe you'll start up another shop elsewhere? Anyway, I hope things go well and good luck w/your future plans. --Meria--
Thanks for letting me and my brother play.Sorry If I messed up on my songs. I literally had learned them the night before. It looked like a decent turn out. I hope more came.
I'm so sorry I couldn't be there. I loved being a part of what the two of you had built and wish I had met you three years sooner. You two ladies were like a second family to me while I lived in the city. I wish you the absolute best in your next endeavor. The community won't be the same without you. Thank you.
Ladies! I'm so very sad to hear that you are closing the doors of the atelier. I'm sad too that I never made it there to visit. I wish you all the best in your next endeavor. I'm sure that no matter what it is, it will most certainly be a great success full of the creativity and loving spirit you put into the atelier and life itself.
Best regards. Peace and love,
Lisa
Sorry to hear that you're closing. It was a pleasure to play at your open mic while I was traveling on business through Minneapolis. I'm sorry I can't make it to the finale but best wishes and good luck!
I will definitely miss my "home" I had at E.P. Atelier... I always enjoyed the companionship and friendship I found at the cafe, and will be greatly saddened at its closing. I wish the very best for you guys as you move on to whatever is next!
A brutal night of original music, and a chance for fans to lay down their support for live broadcasting of independents in the twin cities. Monday, Mar 2. Kitty Cat.
We are well, how are you? Yes, we will be putting together an October date. Will be sending out cards as soon as we get the date settled. Getting tired of this cold! Take care and hope to hear some good news soon!
I thought the same thing. For some reason that's been happening alot lately. Making friends with folks we thought we were already friends with, I mean.
Ladies - The Rave Ons are looking forward to performing at Ep Atelier in December. If you collect food for the food shelf - We are FREE! Only for you.... Dick Ratcliff
It is a loss to lose someone that was so influential in so many of the midwest musician's careers. Stay in touch and we will be getting a hold of you soon. Time to plan 2009 event. Take care.
