Xillbilli is an Africanized & Latin Americanized or Native Americanized spelling of “hillbilly” - the old term used in mixed - negative & positive contexts referring to poor white southern mountaineers. A seemingly simply homogenous population, as the myth goes? I use Xillbilli to refer to our mixed cultural makeup that has been so widely covered up & denigrated on a wholesale level for so long. The truth is that we “hillbillies” are not pure white Anglo-Saxon or Scots-Irish American stock. In culture & blood we contain stores from Native America, Africa, the Mediterranean, the Middle-East & Central & Eastern Europe. Throughout the south, there are large mixed populations/communities known by many names but one will capture them all - Melungeons....................................................
Mau from Mau Mau. an African secret society originating among the Kikuyu that in the 1950s used violence and terror to try to expel European settlers and end British rule in Kenya. The British eventually subdued the organization, but Kenya gained independence in 1963. The Kikuyu mountain guerilla fighters that helped push the British out of Kenya............................................................................................
