About me:
Since 1953, the Epilepsy Foundation of Northern California has provided information, services, and support to the 140,000 Northern Californian’s who experience seizures. We are one of more than fifty affiliates of the National Epilepsy Foundation and our mission is to ensure that people with seizures are able to participate in all life experiences. Although epilepsy is more common than Cerebral Palsy, Parkinson’s disease, and Multiple Sclerosis combined, public awareness of epilepsy is unacceptably low. This year, 200,000 Americans will be diagnosed with epilepsy. Only 30 percent of this population will have an identifiable cause of their seizures. And, many more will unnecessarily suffer the effects of epilepsy due to limited access to health services. Yet, the achievements in the epilepsy community must not be overlooked. Every day, scientists learn more about the brain, the origin of seizures, and innovative approaches to treating epilepsy. Public awareness is steadily improving on both a local and national level. We continue to maintain and expand our scope of services available to Northern Californian’s. All people living with epilepsy should attain the highest quality of life possible! Please help us continue this progress and get involved in the Northern California epilepsy movement.
Who I'd like to meet:
Individuals and their familes affected by epilepsy.

I saw your posts about the TV spots and just wanted to say that I was so excited to have seen that spot on 60 min; and our local news here in Denver spotlighted the brand v. generic issue as well (something that has affected us personally) - and I'm just so excited that epilepsy is getting a bit of a voice.  I know there's so much that goes on these days, it's just nice to see.  Have a great day!

Please accept this Smitten Heart for your very own Willy's Sweet Shop. Please send a sweet back to me because I'm trying to find a Golden Ticket and the more I play, the more Chocolate Bars I earn. The more you play, the more money that is raised for St. Jude Children's Hospital, a great charity that supports the needs of children with cancer.

Symptomatic Epilepsy, Non Convulsive Status Epilepticus & Postical Paraylsis....and thats just in the last few months....

My daughter is 3yrs old in 2 mths and has Symptomatic Epilepsy, due to hypoxic brain damage from birth. Her seizures come in every form possible, partial, mynoclonic, grandmal, tonic clonic..she is on Epilim and phenytoin meds.

Only 2 weeks ago, my daughter, Keira-lee had been suffering from Non Convulsive Status Epilepticus... simple terms, for last 4 weeks or so she has had non convulsive seizures 24/7 and we were unaware until it starting to affect her speech, walking and her ability to eat.

I took Keira to hospital cause she got to the point she was choking on yogurt and had a seizure. Her EEG showed constant epileptic activity. We have spent a week in John Hunter Hospital. She has been on a massive cocktail of meds, midazolam and phenytoin..and is almost back to where she was over 4 wks ago.. it may reoccur, so on a new med phenytoin for a while.

Her 3rd EEG in 3 wks is tomorrow and im not expecting much change from when she was in hospital.

Keira had a mynoclonic seizure last Wednesday, followed by postictal paralysis...
total loss of feeling n movement in right leg for approx 2hrs..
was so very scary!

then there is her Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy Stage II that affects her language and muscle development. She has Spastic Diplegia- Cerebal Palsy in the lower limbs. She has just been fitted and picked up her new AFO spilnts, which she is still getting used to, only been a few days.

Like to meet others with similar stories..
anyone with amazing skills, love to see some photo banners for keira-lee..

Thanks for the add. My 15yo son was diagnosed with epilepsy after a primary grand mal seizure at school on Sept. 24 and another grand mal seizure at home 12 days later. He's doing well now on his meds.

November is national Epilepsy Awareness month.
Please take a couple minutes to add your voice to this MySpace Impact Awards forum discussion on the need for greater epilepsy awareness.

Last year, Autism beat out Epilepsy by a landslide. Don't let it happen this year too.
