Epilepsy Foundation of Northern California's Blurbs |
About me:
Since 1953, the Epilepsy Foundation of Northern California has provided information, services, and support to the 140,000 Northern Californian’s who experience seizures. We are one of more than fifty affiliates of the National Epilepsy Foundation and our mission is to ensure that people with seizures are able to participate in all life experiences. Although epilepsy is more common than Cerebral Palsy, Parkinson’s disease, and Multiple Sclerosis combined, public awareness of epilepsy is unacceptably low.
This year, 200,000 Americans will be diagnosed with epilepsy. Only 30 percent of this population will have an identifiable cause of their seizures. And, many more will unnecessarily suffer the effects of epilepsy due to limited access to health services.
Yet, the achievements in the epilepsy community must not be overlooked. Every day, scientists learn more about the brain, the origin of seizures, and innovative approaches to treating epilepsy. Public awareness is steadily improving on both a local and national level. We continue to maintain and expand our scope of services available to Northern Californian’s. All people living with epilepsy should attain the highest quality of life possible! Please help us continue this progress and get involved in the Northern California epilepsy movement.
