Pitchslap Music was formed in 2004 as a means to bring together several djs in the Detroit area (and beyond) who share a common love for House Music. In a city known to be the birthplace of Techno, Detroit's electronic music history runs deep...
Just an afternoon drive from Chicago, Detroit has been influenced by the sounds of House since its inception. However, over the years, Detroit has had little exposure to the new school house sounds that have breathed new life into what may now be referred to as Classic House. Tracks laden with this west coast funk, and quirkier sounds with a tech edge, are a staple of what Pitchslap Music is all about.
The Pitchslap Music collective includes, Number9, Episoldier, Joe G., and M. Rhythm. This collaboration of four very dedicated DJs want nothing more than to play the tracks they love to others who share their connection to House music.
Deeply rooted in the Soulful House sounds of Detroit, the Jackin' House sounds of Chicago, with ears trained on West Coast Funk and fresh sounds from around the globe, Pitchslap Music has the versatility to take the party where it wants to go.
Episoldier brings to the collective his selective ear for funk-laden, deep, bass driven house that often delves into more haunting acid-influenced sounds.
While growing up, with his parents' record collection consisting of classics such as Earth, Wind, and Fire, Midnight Star, The Gap Band, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, (and so on), Episoldier's musical tastes developed early on. An avid music fan growing up, his appreciation of funk and disco-influenced sounds joined with his newfound interest in electronic music in the late 90's.
Making Detroit clubs and parties his weekend adventures, Episoldier received an ear-opening call to dj'ing by hearing Richie Hawtin bring in the year 2000 at the legendary club Motor. After that show, owning turntables was a must, and was soon after a reality. Crossing through all subgenres of House, Episoldier has found that the tripped-out/deep grooves of west coast house--with added doses of quirky tech and jacking bass--along with a little old school flavor, suit the dancefloor best.
