Equations were forced into forming in April 2008 when BBC Radio Cymru got hold of an old tape recording of Gareth's looped drum scratchings and Matthew's guitar noodlings, and held them to ransom.
Between January and December 2009, they were joined by Owain Taylor-Shaw (and briefly Mark Flanagan) for a whirlwind nearly-year that took in several shows at Cardiff Barfly, Ten Feet Tall, The Vic in Llithfaen, The National Eisteddfod in Bala, Clwb Ifor Bach, Swn Festival, St. David’s Hall and ended with one last acoustic rattle through the catalogue at Gwdihw Bar.
They were lucky enough to share stages with bands including Everything Everything, Yr Ods, Promatics, Strange News From Another Star, Innercity Pirates and Sibrydion.
They paused briefly in May 2009 to record an exclusive session for Huw Stephens’ C2 Show, which included the tracks Diflannu, Heb Ti Mae’r Byd Yn Torri I Lawr and Ymlaen.

Rhwng Ionawr a Rhagfyr 2009, ymunodd Owain Taylor-Shaw (ag, am ychydig, Mark Flanagan) am bron flwyddyn o sioeau yn cynnwys Barfly, Ten Feet Tall, Y Fic yn Llithfaen, Eisteddfod Genedlaethol Bala, Clwb Ifor Bach, Gwyl Swn, Neuadd Dewi Sant ac yn gorffen yn Gwdihw efo un rhediad ola (acwstic style) trw’r catalog.
