juan cristóbal saavedra aka equipo was born in santiago de chile in 1974. while growing up,
he studied guitar, arranged his first songs and made his first experiences recording in
sound studios. in 1993 he went on to study sound technology and electric guitar, singing,
keyboards and electronic music at university. during this period he worked on cruela,
a crossover of shoegazer, dark and post rock. alongside his musical activities,
he coordinated musical events and studied cultural managment.
in 1998 he produced his first solo records of experimental music under the name of pikap.
in 1999 starts his electronic music project under the alias of equipo.
at the beginning of 2001 he travels to berlin where he works on the composition of the
tracks that will make his first album for the label fueradeserie! named (...e.q.u.i.p.o...).
he also works as dj at the legendary berlin club tacheles.
at 2004 he leaves for barcelona where he creates the artistic colective dpendiente and
works in his musical projects equipo, pikap, hospital, ¡sin frenos! & kim novak.
in late 2006 he publishes presente ep and a year later usted no está aquí ep
at the chilean netlabel pueblo nuevo. in april 2008, equipo publishes his third ep,
al norte por el interior and in october 2008 cruce de brisas ep in the french netlabel
rodoid.
equipo performs live regularly and has published his music with severals projects and
has worked in differents branches of art like cinema, theatre, dance and visual arts
showing his work in differents formats at festivals such as arco, bac, bam, sónar and
panorama.
nowadays saavedra works on his performances with the visual support of miprimerdop.
juan cristóbal saavedra aka equipo nace en 1974 en santiago de chile.
durante su infancia realiza los primeros estudios musicales, aprende a tocar guitarra,
compone sus primeras canciones y graba en estudios. a partir de 1993 cursa la carrera
de tecnología en sonido y realiza estudios de guitarra eléctrica, canto, teclado y
música electrónica. durante este período trabaja en una serie de proyectos musicales
de los cuales cruela (un crossover de shoegazer, dark y post rock) llega a ser el más
sobresaliente. más tarde, y en conjunto con sus actividades musicales, estudia
gestión cultural y produce eventos artísticos.
en 1998 produce su primer disco solista de música experimental bajo el seudónimo de pikap.
en 1999 comienza con su proyecto de música electrónica llamado equipo.
a principios del 2001 parte a berlín donde compone los cortes de su primer disco
para el sello fueradeserie! llamado (...e.q.u.i.p.o...). paralelamente trabaja como
dj residente en el legendario club berlinés tacheles.
en el año 2004 saavedra parte a barcelona donde funda el colectivo dpendiente y
trabaja en sus proyectos musicales equipo, pikap, hospital, ¡sin frenos! y kim novak.
a fines de 2006 publica presente ep y un año mas tarde usted no está aquí ep
en el netlabel chileno pueblo nuevo. su tercer y cuarto ep al norte por el interior y
cruce de brisas son publicados en abril y octubre de 2008 respectivamente por el
netlabel francés rodoid.
equipo se presenta regularmente en vivo y ha publicado su música con sus
diferentes proyectos y trabajado en otras ramas del arte como el cine, el teatro,
la danza, las artes visuales y las artes plásticas, presentando su trabajo en distintos
formatos en festivales como arco, bac, bam, sónar y panorama.
actualmente saavedra se presenta en directo con el apoyo visual de miprimerdrop.
El próximo Jueves 23 de Julio presentamos la quinta edición de las "hYbrid dusbta riddim"!!! Una noche donde se dan cabida los bajos más potentes a cargo de los artistas más importantes de la escena dubstep que viven o se dejan caer por Barcelona... En esta ocasión tenemos el honor de contar con BELCRO, DUB ÜTEN, SATTA B., NEHUEN y por supuesto con hybrid crew (MURDARAH & TRaShVANTRaxxx)!!!

Hey guys! After a year and a half we are back charging full steam ahead with the release of our latest album "Songs For The Road Towards The End Of The World" this past May 31, 2009. Unlike our two previous releases this was a long duration album (LP) featuring 12 all created by Pete Drown. Mike Mellow participated in the album by co-producing it and creating the art. The first single is called "Ciento Once Grados" (111 Degrees) and we have a brief video/slideshow teaser for it on our page.
