Sonofagun, gonna have fun with this bio ...
Ergo Canto is a folk music duo from Boston metro west, composed of Paul Beck and Leslie Bryant. Leslie and Paul met through the Folk Song Society of Greater Boston, of which Paul is a past (verrry past) President.
They present a broad mix of original songs, traditional folk, and covers ranging from Gordon Bok and Utah Phillips to Donovan and Hank Williams. Their music has been described by Steve Rapson as "ethereal".
In addition to vocals, you're likely to hear six and twelve string guitars, fiddle, flute, harmonica, mandolin, and who knows what all else!
Ergo Canto has one self-produced CD available, "My Hand, My Sword, My Sin". The title derives from the song "I Told The Cuckold", which is Paul's contemporary "sequel" to the traditional ballad "Matty Groves".
Please visit http://ergocanto.org (see the link at left under General Info) for more information about the CD, including how to get your very own copy! Autographed, even.
Ergo Canto can be seen at open mikes in the greater Boston area, and other venues as listed in our upcoming shows list.
Oh, by the way ... as to our name ... originally we were going to call ourselves Les Paul, but found out some other dude had already taken that name. Next best seemed to be an obscure Latin phrase that probably makes people think we sing madrigals (so far, no!). Seriously, if you're familiar with Rene Descarte's famous quotation "Cogito, ergo sum" (I think, therefore I am) you might see how Ergo Canto ("Therefore we sing") would fit us.
