Reading. Writing. Stories, poems, plays, essays, novels. Hiking the Appalachian Trail. Listening to music before everyone else discovers it. Still listening to it after everyone finally discovers it. Watching incredibly cool movies, regardless of the original language spoken. Rejecting political and social extremism of whatever kind. Seeking Truth wherever it may be found.
Music
Nearly everything from English church music through modern rock and hard rock. A particular interest in musicians who have something to say lyrically as well as musically. If the music works on the headphones--if there's something closer and more personal to the music when I'm that close to it--all the better. Check out my friends list for a more specific clue as to the music I love: there are quite a few awesome musicians and groups there.
Here is a video interpretation of Brandur Enni's song "Let The River Run" that I filmed January to March 2009:
Here's a video I have created as a visual interpretation of Brandur Enni's song "Anywhere I Go":
Here is my interpretation of Brandur Enni's song "Yellow and Green":
In contrast to the above videos, here's a professional video by Jana Damröse for Brandur's single "Sometimes Truth Needs a Lie":
My third video was designed to accompany "Flowers," a song from Leiahdorus' 2nd CD, Parallel Universe. Here it is:
For flowers that bloomed in May and June 2009, I assembled a video to accompany Boys Air Choir's take on the folk song "The Flower of Magherally":
Here's my video interpretation of Joan Osborne's cover of Jump, Little Children's song "Cathedrals." It is a radiant song in this version (from Osborne's Little Wild One CD), and it readily lends itself to a visual presentation.
Here's a video I put together for Coldplay's nonalbum song "Death Will Never Conquer." The video was shot on a hike past a couple of cemeteries in Harriman State Park on 30 May 2009:
I've made a video for The Swirling Eddies' song "Sweet Mother of God," from the band's CD Zoom Daddy. The visual images come from The Web Gallery of Art (http://www.wga.hu) and other online sources.
What follows here is a video of Anthony Way, when he was a chorister at St. Paul's Cathedral in London, singing a classic hymn. (This recording is not available on CD.) To hear Anthony's new music in advance of his CD release, check out his Myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/anthonyway

And here's a brand new video of Anthony playing one of his new songs, "Little Dancer," live at a recent gig in London:
Here's a strange retro video for "In Case You Want to Talk It Out," a cool new song by Campsite:
And here's some live music from Blackstrap:
And now to give props to cool music from NYC. Here's Ian McGlynn playing something new:
And one of NYC's preeminent vocalists, Annie Quick does a live rendition of her song "Hemingway":
And here's a brand new video from Brandur Enni and his band Anytime, with the song "Concept of Time":
Movies
Anything by Louis Malle. Some by Kevin Smith. Anything where the story makes we want to meet the characters. Nothing where the special effects are more important than the dialogue. Someday I may just have to make my own film in order to explain what I really mean. . . .
Television
Law & Order, Law & Order: SVU, Law & Order: CI, 24, Prison Break, Lost (until it weirded out this season), Star Trek (everything before Enterprise), Hogan's Heroes, Young Riders, Eerie Indiana, and my all-time favorite, Starman (the series). Also, I'm a news junkie. And music videos. And sports, especially any game the NY Mets, NY Giants, NY Jets, Boston Celtics, or Baylor Bears play.

Favorite authors--Charles Williams, C. S. Lewis, J. R. R. Tolkien, Anne Ridler, John Heath-Stubbs, Ismail Kadare, Maguib Mahfouz, Tawfiq al-Hakim, Frederick Buechner, Madeleine L'Engle, Geoffrey Reiter, Kevin Hadduck, Lorne Mook, L. About me: College professor, poet, storyteller, music lover & critic. There's much more about me (if you care) over at my original blog page http://ghosthouse.xanga.com.
And check out the spoken poems over at http://www.myspace.com/deadpoetscorner. Some are read by my friend Matt, some by me. Some of the poems are by poets you've heard of, but some are by me.
Who I'd like to meet: Any of the musicians/bands in my Myspace Friends list whom I have not already met. Nelson Mandela. The 44th president of the United States. All the poets and other writers who have influenced me. And, of course, Jesus Christ. (He should have been first on the list.)

In Jake’s words ~
“A Case of
You”
"There are few songs that
remain constants for me. This song is for my Mom who's birthday is this
week. A Case of You along with so many Joni songs have been the bridge
between us and helped in growing our friendship throughout my adult
life. Blue, the album this is off of was a seminal piece of work in my
Mom's life, and luckily it became the same for me. There really are no
words to say how much this song means to me, as a writer, a singer and
a hopeless romantic. I find it's meanings to be endless and I hope in
this little moment, in that tiny room with that old microphone I was
able to capture just that.
