Sounds Like
SOMETIMES improvisational jazz viola or violin with world or ethnic overtones;
SOMETIMES ambient/meditative improvisations with Asian and western strings together;
SOMETIMES old-school Hawaiian songs with 'ukulele and paniolo fiddle;
SOMETIMES...it's different!

To the Hula-Dancing Maiden
I'm a musician and singer, with a very eclectic background, and I'm usually known as Eric (or Erik) Golub, but also somewhere and somewhen as Q Norman (Kyu Nohman), or Gao Yuefeng....
I've lived, played jazz violin and/or viola, and studied and performed Asian musics in Hawaii, Japan and China, and I've played concerts in a few other countries. I've long been attracted to, and involved with, the music of still other countries as well.....My string improvisations have been featured on other people's albums since 1978, and I've released one solo CD so far called "Pluck!"......I'm in the process of recording 2 completely different new CDs (one folk/Hawaiian featuring vocals and ukulele, one ethnic/ambient featuring Asian strings)......I play viola in the band with a really fresh singer/songwriter, Vanessa Van Spall. Check out the new CD, "Cotton-Poly Blend"! In addition to vanessavanspall.com, it's now available on iTunes, CD Baby, and Amazon.com.
.......I've been playing my blend of Serbian gypsy and modern jazz violin and viola with Larry Vuckovich's Blue Balkan Ensemble since its inception in 1980........I'm also working solo or with a group as a Hawaiian performer on vocals, ukulele and 'slack-key fiddle.' And even though I spent years in Hawaii, and consider myself a "displaced kama'aina,'" I learned Hawaiian music and began singing it professionally here in San Francisco (visit my Hawaiian music site Alika, da Manoa boy!) .............BLOG ME at EricLectic's GolubLog, and check out all the videos below and at Slim's documentary site: Open Mic Documentary,

"Ticklin' The Strings" by Sweet Hollywaiians
Amazing Japanese hot string band playing 1920's, 30's, 40's style hawaiian, swing, calypso, blues, italian music and originals,featuring vintage instruments.3 songs with Robert Armstrong and Tony Marcus(from Robert Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders)
"The Sweet Hollywaiians have probably the best feel for this 20's music of any string band working today. They manage the rare feat of sounding relaxed even when their playing is hot, are top notch musicians with tasteful arrangements and a full, rich, warm sound.Plus, they have a nice gamut of tunes, from King Nawahi to Giovanni Vicari to Bobby Leecan. See them live, if you can, for an unforgettable experience. If you can't, buy their Cds!" ~ Terry Zwigoff

DARK STAR is officially one of my all time favorite songs. I'm not kidding. I'm very serious. I'd like to know more about that song. It has inspired me to write some lyrics.
