Le titre fait sens, référence à « Struttin’ », album anthem des Meters, le son de La Nouvelle-Orléans. D’emblée, sur le thème-titre, le Fender entre dans la transe. C’est lui qui donne le la sur « Rock the Days » et sur « Doo-Goo » , aux soubassements plus légers. Dans les mêmes teintes, « Casa Bamako », avec des touches plus « afro » rehaussées d’un toucher gospel. Celui qui irrigue tout autant « Them That Got », un blues de Ray Charles, qu’Eric Legnini et ses complices jouent classique, surtout pas basique, en songeant au « preacher ». Plus loin, il donne des contours inédits à « The Secret Life Of Plants » de Stevie Wonder, sans en trahir l’écriture poétique… Eric Legnini dresse un autoportrait en noir et blanc, plus conforme à la diversité de son originalité pianistique.
Après trois décennies de musique à se construire, Eric Legnini fait donc le point avec lui-même. Lui est tout à la fois : amateur de hip-hop et de swing, des folles seventies et des mixtapes des années 2000, du jazz virtuose et de la soul esthète… Lui aux consoles et aux claviers, compositeur et producteur. Cette identité, multiforme, se dessine et prend forme avec ce disque « nucléaire », où il retourne aux sources du trio.

Trippin’
The title makes sense, reference to “Struttin’”, the Meters’ anthem album, and the sound of New Orleans. Straightaway, on the title-theme, the Fender gets into the trance. The Fender is the one setting the tone on “Rock the days”and on “Doo-Goo” where it forms a lighter bedrock. In the same shade is “Casa Bamako”, with a more Afro flavor underlined by a touch of Gospel. The same which irrigates “Them That Got”, a blues track by Ray Charles, which Eric Legnini and his accomplices play classic, evoking the “preacher”. Further in, he gives a totally new shape to “The Secret Life of Plants” by Stevie Wonder, without betraying its poetic writing… Eric Legnini paints a black and white self-portrait, more consistent with the diversity of his pianistic originality.
After three decades of music constructing himself with the multitude of all his influences, Eric Legnini takes his bearings. He and everything at once: enthusiast of hip-hop and swing, of the crazy seventies and the mixtapes of the years 2000, of virtuoso jazz and esthete soul… him at the consoles and the keyboards, composer and producer. This multiform identity appears and takes shape with this “nuclear” album, where he returns to the sources of the trio to throw himself forward.
