I am a recently graduated music composition major at Illinois Wesleyan University, with a minor in political science, currently studying for my master's degree in composition at Roosevelt University. I first got into music seriously in high school, when I decided to learn bass guitar and attempt to play in some bands. While none of these groups ever come out from the basement (literally), it sparked my interest in writing and performing music. Since then I have played double bass in orchestras, electric bass in bands, and have written everything from one minutes miniature pieces for solo instruments to a forty minute "Symphony" for strings and percussion. Other works included song cycles, electro-acoustic music, chamber works for woodwinds and brass, and music to accompany dance.
Current projects include a chamber opera, a string quartet, a set of piano pieces, and more.
Hey I just randomly ran into a clip of you playing the second movement of the Barber Violin Concerto on YouTube... I mean, I imagine it was the same Eric Malmquist.. either way, pretty neat!
eric, nice work here! your music is fantastic! thank you for checking out my music & being my friend. hope to see you at a show sometime & stay in touch. your friend, kevin bowers
In observance of the winter tradition on the Planet Xyzzyx where we celebrate the festival of the fertile, slightly constipated goat, we here at Shmanbot have a holiday present for everyone. We've put a new song in the MySpace player for everyone to hear.
The song is called "Unnecessary Side Quest," and it's on the new full-length CD "Shmanbot Versus the Slime Demon," which is on iTunes now.
That's okay. Yeah, I figured you were probably busy with school and stuff. I'm glad things are going good for you. As for me, I'm kinda in the slow lane right now, I've been procrastinating, but I should be starting school in the spring. I want to study tobe a personal trainer cause I LOVE exercising. It's addictive. Seriously, if you even know someone suffering from depression, tell them to take up running. I'm not even kidding, it really works. Well, it was nice talking to ya, and I hope you have fun at school. Ciau!
Okay, somethings wrong here, ur page says you haven't been on since March, but I know you accepted me as a friend after March, so that can't be right. Well anyway, how are things? Did you go anywhere for summmer vacation like......ACTING CAMP?!!!
ERIC! Heeeey, it's been too long. You remember me, right? We went to acting camp together. I really miss going to camp. I'm too old to go nowadays. Wow, I didn't know you were a composer. I knew that you played guitar because I saw you in the talent show at acting camp playing guitar. Well, I gotta get going. Thanx for adding me and maybe I'll talk to ya later. Ciau!
You have written some really great music! I'm impressed and enjoying it a lot, especially the first movement of the Symphony. If you ever have anything performed in San Francisco, let me know.
