Eric Uglum is an internationally known musician, producer and owner of
New Wine Sound Studio in Southern California. Eric has made a career of highlighting and complementing the talents of others, whether on stage or behind the recording console of his studio. He is often content to play subtle guitar and mandolin backup or add in a stunning vocal harmony, whatever best serves the song. With the release of his 2004 solo recording Shenandoah Wind on Backcountry Records, Eric has answered the outcry of his long-time following, bringing his soulful lead singing and guitar playing to the forefront in a very moving combination of songs that together reflect some of Eric’s musical affinities. Selected by Bluegrass Now magazine as the best album of 2004 , guests on the project include Alison Krauss, Ron Block, Stuart Duncan and Rob Ikes. Eric often performs with his sons, Austin (16) and Christian (14), who are already wonderful musicians in their own right, and recently the three have recorded a project produced by Janet Beazley entitled, "The Old Road to Jerusalem". Eric describes the new CD as “very diverse,” which challenges the boys to “play like seasoned adults.” The new CD is available now and can be purchased on ericuglum.com . See the music player above for some preview cuts from the CD.
This new project is going to a ton of fun and I can't thank you enough, in advance, for what I know will be a grand experience. Always is with Mr. Perfect at the helm. Not to coin Carly Simon but "Nobody does It Better"! Thanks Eric.
Hey! It was awesome playing with you at Victorville. I was hoping when we come into record you'll play guitar on the song I wrote. Your playing added alot to it. Anyway you always say we have something funny to say well you'll like this... I dropped my phone in the ocean without my knowledge and my sis picked it up cause she thought it was a bag of crackers!... and it STILL works!
Hey Eric You guys were awesome at the Huck Finn Jubilee. Thanks for the jamming at our camp. The girls love visiting with you. :-) Hope to see you down the road again soon.
Hi Eric, Lots of fun next week in Arizona. I'll get back to you with information, pictures, and maybe videos of the Picking Party in Valthermond(NL) on March 1st. Say Hello to your family, Chris and Janet.
Long time no chat.Happy New Year to you and your family. Looking forward to hearing some new material from you and the boys. I will be ready for studio time this summer. You game? My newest project is finally off the ground and I need the best engineer on the planet to make it all happen! Hope all is well. Take care Eric.

Eric! Your schedule looks mighty happenin' . . . however, should you find yourself bored Oct 19:
I'm playing a show this month at the Ponderosa in Apple Valley. I've been blogging about it as I build the set. Mark Knopfler once said he'd always live near a pub on the corner to play his tunes at. I know exactly what he means! So far I have played some truly cool places up here and met some awesome people, like yourself. Thanks for being a part of it all. Hope to see you at the Ponderosa show Friday, October 19th. Either way, keep on pickin' my brother!
What can one say about such great talent. The lord truly blessed Eric and his sons with an incredible gift for music. Eric is also an incredible engineer with a remarkable gift for patience. Truly makes any recording experience a true joy! Thanks for all your influence as I look forward to future projects / shows / new recordings from you.
Howdy from Georgia. I have always enjoyed Dick Brown's banjo pickin' and since we played together some many years back I've been partial. I have to tell you that when I heard you guys playing on that Lost Highway Cd, Awesome!!! Your mandolin, his banjo, the fiddle and what perfect harmonies. You have a great sound. I'm amazed brother!! I like it. The tunes you are doing with your sons sound great. When you get back in the studio tell Dick I said Hello. I guess I need to come out west for a visit and hear some Bluegrass. Thanks for the add.
Hi Eric, Thanks for the nice words about our music! And hey, we LOVE Shenandoah Wind and The Old Road to Jerusalem. Heck, we just love everything you do! Hope to see you sometime soon, LGBGB
Hey Eric, I was driving around here Sunday night and heard a cut from the new cd on WQDR. The DJ made a mess of trying to pronounce your last name (you should hear how he announces Rob Ickes' name) but it was great to hear your music on the airwaves. Hope you're doing well!
Eric,
I got a copy of the Old Road to Jerusalem. You should write a book entitled "How to Grow Great Musicians." You sound great, of course, and the boys are awesome. Tell Austin that I tried to send him kudos through his myspace but I couldn't figure out how to.
Absolutely superb stuff! Hope to see you sooner than later.
Love,
JE
Hey Eric,
I was just listening to a bootleg of a live Jimmy Martin show in which his onstage banter was second-to-none, as far as insanity and drunkeness go. He exclaims, "J.D. Crowe can't pick the banjer louder than I can holler!" And then came his signature high-pitched yelp. HA! It's classic stuff and I miss Jimmy so much. It made me think of you, for some reason.
Hope you're doing well. Things around here have been a little rough but mostly ok. Write/call when you get the chance.
love,
Julie
