Influences
Pink Floyd, Mark Knopfler, Crosby, Stills and Nash, Neil Young, The Beatles, The Eagles, Tom Petty,The Byrds, Santana, Eric Clapton, Peter Green, John Mayall, Pat Metheny etc. etc. and a whole range of blues and jazz guitarists.
Erik began song-writing a couple of years ago as a result of penning a number of poems which he decided to turn into songs. He has played guitar since the late fifties and was in a variety of blues based bands during the 60's. Later, he became involved in performing material as musical accompaniment at poetry readings around the colleges, with some well known contemporary poets of the day. Throughout his time as an art teacher, he was regularly involved in musical projects and bands, performing at school and elsewhere. His first album, recorded and produced in his own studio in 2007, is entitled 'Reflections'. The songs represent elements of spirituality, love for the natural world, people, places, memories and philosophical thought. He is currently nearing completion of his second album entitled 'These Days'. This is a collection of songs with a strongly nostalgic slant and includes harmonica on a number of tracks. He is currently gigging in a duo called 'REPRO' with Rob Dean. Erik plays rhythm guitar, harmonica and provides additonal vocals. Rob plays lead guitar and is the main vocalist. The backings for the duo have been created by Rob in his own studio. They perform a mixture of classic blues, rock and pop covering material from the early 50's through to the 90's, in addition to some of their own material.
Erik is a practising Fine Artist and has regularly exhibited and sold work to all corners of the world. In addition to painting, his work includes graphic design, illustration, mural art, digital art and photography. He is currently working on commissions, preparing work for an exhibition, in addition to writing poetry and engaged in his musical interests.
