Music
I love way too many bands to truly list them all...I will just highlight a few: Counting Crows -- could there be a better band -- or one more influential in my life?, The White Stripes (for innovation...and being strange -- my favorite combination),
Beastie Boys (for those crazy road trips to Apache Junction), The Killers (trendy, but fucking awesome), Jason Mraz (geeky boys can be so dark),
Cursive (road trip bonanzas...who knew?), The Bravery (because they are just cool -- just listen), Weezer (because we all enjoy "the sweater song"), Gavin DeGraw (for stupid boys who don't get it), Matchbox 20 (not Rob Thomas lately...though...but still), Paul Westerberg (Because being a songwriter would be awesome), Everclear (for the leftover high school days...Dobleria....and rocking out at concerts), Sublime (for the AP study bonanza...and Wizard cans in the street), Paul Simon (for that guy that liked Paul Simon...and for giving us all 50 ways to leave our lovers), Badly Drawn Boy (for that one time), Billy Joel (for those guys that liked Billy Joel and still thought it was cool), Al Green (for the Lawton casino...and a strange bus ride behind said casino), Beck (because it is Beck), CCR (because of road trips with the 8 track), The Used (because Kael made the CD), Bela Fleck (Bela, Bela, Bela!), Damien Rice (beautiful lyrics....killer voice...just kills me), Violent Femmes (because we all like to rock out sometimes...and The Femmes let you do that), Ben Folds (Five) (because everything old is new again), Three Dog Night (they wrote my theme song), Amos Lee (For ACL), The Kills (because, they are simply awesome), Blues Traveler (don't even quiz me...I spent a week memorizing Hook -- yeah, I am a badass), The Replacements (originality at its finest), Charlie Parker (for Bird), Radiohead (OK Computer is one of the greatest albums of all time), John Coltrane (for being smooth), The New Pornographers (new/old delights), Ozomatli (cause everyone should love them more...and more...and more), Jack Johnson (because we like that...alot...great beach music), Rilo Kiley (we should all love Rilo Kiley -- for simply rocking), The Shins (currently in the CD player), Dido (because I am a girl...and it's what we do), Modest Mouse (totally underrated), Sex Pistols (Originality at its second finest), Belle and Sebastian (everyone should have one album...we would all be a little happier), Pearl Jam (because they remain roughly true) Tom Petty (for great songs that you know by heart...and change you), Oasis (for the Vortex), Travis (for the covers), Ryan Adams (for Desire), Widespread Panic (for the hippies), Phish (for the concerts...the ones that we can remember), French Rap/Hip Hop (Solarr and that ilk...buy Mach 6...almost nothing better than a G & T and some Solarr in the background), Hank Williams (for the Valster, and the back porch that fell), The Doves (because I need this in the mornings), Bon Jovi (cause nothing can stop "the Jon"), Prince (for Central Station...and because it is Prince), NKOTB (for the depth of my 13 year old obsession...I should also add Paula and Debbie to this mix), Maroon 5 (for the beginning of 2005), Sarah McLachlan (for that one year...and that one boy), Poe (for that next year...and that next boy), etc...so many bands....so little money to buy albums....
WEST WING (of course, this is my favorite of all time. Josh Lyman is the ideal of intellect, passion, and accountability...and so cute), Lost, DIY Network, Crossfire, My Name is Earl, Colbert Report, Daily Show, MASH, Simpsons, Family Guy, Robot Chicken, Home Movies (anything Adult Swim), SportsNight was a great show, Arrested Development, Buffy, Dawson's Creek, Facts of Life, History Channel, Notorious, anything BBC.
Books
Unbearable Lightness of Being, English Patient, Summer Sisters (every girl loves Judy Blume), A Book of Common Prayer (favorite), Skin of the Lion, Harry Potter, Civility, Canterbury Tales, A Tale of Two Cities, Love in the Time of Cholera, The Secret Life of Bees, A People's History of the United States, She's Come Undone, We're Right They're Wrong (one of the best political books ever), The Love of the Last Tycoon, Henry and Cato, The Hours, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, On the Road, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, And seriously....Economics Explained.....because I just didn't get it until I read this book.
Heroes
Some of my friends are the best of heroes....they know that, though.....those conceited bastards... Clinton, Carville, Mark H., Paul C.
About me: More about me at my blog: erinkate.blog.com....I love music, books, movies, TV, a good rainstorm, a close election, my friends, origininality, etc.
Who I'd like to meet: The influential and the conspiratorial.
It would be pretty cool to have G&T's with Mick Jagger, Adam Duritz, Thom Yorke, Willie Nelson, Paul Simon, Michael Stipe, and Art Alexakis...yeah...that would pretty much rock -- as long as they weren't singing "We Are the World." Then things would get a little weird...
I cannot wait to crash that wedding in Lawton, it is on. I am pretty sure that L-Town is not prepared for us. Will be great to see some old friends too. Hope your holidays were as awesome as ours. By the way, I am having a boy.
Everything is booked as of today. We are staying our first night in Sedona at the Hilton, and then staying at the Valley Ho the rest of the trip, including friday night. So, lets get it on! What a great trip this is going to be.
Also, Jenny signed her contract, and she officially has a job for the rest of her life.
