Disclaimer: I think that most people/bands write their own bio's. So, I don't really understand why the acceptable point of view for writing your own bio is third person. I feel the need to switch it up. Formally, I will play no games; this bio will be written in first person ... this is me writing this bio about myself.
I like music. I've always known this but it has taken me a while to narrow down what style of music.
In the early years, I was completely convinced that I was a country singer, and thus, had an overwhelming desire to sing the national anthem at the Superbowl. Inconveniently, I was born and raised in Up-State New York. My country singing career did not look promising.
I was also convinced, at a very young age, that I should have been Italian (or at least part Italian). This may have been influenced by all of my school friends that had last names ending in -rico, -vello, -ruzzi, and -ucci. At about nine, I wrote my first song; it was about a boy. My dad kindly listened to "Love Can't Be But A Stream Through My Heart," sung in the best up-state-New-York-wanna-be-Italian-country-twang I could muster up. In my nine-year-old mind, as I belted away in my living room, I was a rock star! My performing led me into acting in film and theater; my music helped me find a home in musical theater. Never dreaming small, I thought my goal should no longer be to sing at the Superbowl, but to be on Broadway. Throughout my teenage years, I continued writing music; I wrote songs ranging from gospel ballads to angry emo rants. When I was twelve, I started to study classical voice. Accordingly, I pursued a music degree in college, had a small stint in a recording studio internship and eventually ended up here. I live in San Francisco, CA and Denton, TX. I have an amazing husband, Rob Gungor, of three and a half years. I have great friends.
My hope is that through my music, you can see me. Not the wanna-be-Italian-up-state-New-York-country-singer, but me. I strive to make my lyrics genuine, unique and relatable. I strive to write my music funky and original, but palatable. I like taking old tunes and songs I love and making them my own. Thank you for reading my bio, for being my friend and for listening to my music. There is much more to me than is written here or even in my songs but for the sake of space, your time and humor, all the above I deem appropriate and true ... including the desire to sing the national anthem at the Superbowl ... someday.
