Here is a slideshow from when Scott Unzicker (guitar), Ian Bailey (drums) and I went to play in the Portuguese Azores in July/August 2006. Thanks to Dave Scott, the U.S. Consul to the Azores, with his amazing hospitality and off-the-beaten-path tourguide knowhow, this 10-day tour far surpassed any I've experienced! In my next life, I want to be an Azorean cow.
Influences
Freddie, Albert & BB King, Albert Collins, Earl Hooker, Etta James, Koko Taylor, Irma Thomas, Dinah Washington, Percy Sledge, Big Maybelle, Willie May "Big Mama" Thornton, Bonnie Lee, Johnny "Guitar" Watson, Willie Dixon, Willie Kent, Willie Weeks, James Jamerson, ZZ Hill, Carol Kaye, Ray Charles, Mike Bloomfield, Magic Sam, Donny Hathaway, Marvin Gaye, Sam Cooke, Jimmy Rogers, Otis Rush, Eddie Clearwater, all the folks in my bio and many more...
After singing in an all-women's acapella group in the northeast for 5 years, I heard B.B. King's "Lucille" in 1994 and I was hooked. Finished school, packed myself and my cat into my car and drove down to Austin, Texas where I heard there was a great live blues scene. Started my first band in 1998 at Austin's infamous 6th Street blues dive, Joe's Generic Bar. The band was "the Dupes," initially formed with 2 mentors of mine, drummer Jeff Hodges and guitarist George Rarey. The following year came the "Cooltones" - a brief line-up including another long-time friend and mentor, the late great "Uncle" John Turner and (then teenage) young gun guitarists Gary Clark, Jr. and Eve Monsees. For the next several years I played and travelled regionally and internationally with various lineups, often featuring Houston's John McVey on guitar.
Of course this is the extremely abbreviated version. It's been an amazing 10 years!
These days the Erin Jaimes Band most often includes Luke Cutchen on guitar, Doug Day on drums, Matt Farrell on piano and organ and "the Italian Tornado", Salvatore "Banzai" LA Rocca, on harmonica.
Here's a slideshow of my May, 2006 tour of Sweden, Germany & Denmark with "Uncle" John Turner, Jan Gerfast and "Magic Mama"...
