Erin Rogers has been playing piano and mountain dulcimer for over ten years. She is known for playing a wide variety music with great passion and feeling. She loves all kinds of music including old-time fiddle tunes, bluegrass, ragtime, blues, classical, gospel, jazz, and Celtic.
Erin won the 2004 National Mountain Dulcimer Contest at the age of seventeen, becoming the youngest ever to win this title. Her musical journey began when she started playing piano at the age of five. She soon discovered that pianos aren’t very portable. For her seventh birthday, her parents gave her a mountain dulcimer. She taught herself to play, fell in love with the instrument, and soon developed a playing style all her own.
Erin loves sharing her music with others by teaching private lessons and workshops. She teaches all ages, from 7 to 70, at all levels. All of Erin’s students will learn how to play chords in a multitude of keys. To her, being able to play every tune is not nearly as important as being able to play along with anyone in any key. She likes to pull people out of their comfort zone and stretch them musically.
Erin does some solo performances, but she prefers to play with her family band, “Scenic Roots”. The three-piece band consists of Erin, her sister Amber, and her dad Doug. Each member of the family is talented on multiple instruments, including guitar, fiddle, mandolin, banjo, mountain and hammered dulcimers, piano, and who knows what else. They have performed in fifteen states and Japan, at Bluegrass festivals, contra dances, schools, community celebrations, arts council concerts, and anywhere an audience can be found. Erin’s future plans include a career in music therapy, along with teaching and performing. Her goal is to brighten someone’s day wherever she goes. Her passionate playing and unique arrangements are sure to do just that. ~Enjoy Life~
hey!!! it was good catching up with you and your family last weekend! have fun this summer and i'm glad that you pulled through because i need some dulcimer in my life!
Hey Erin, looking forward to jamming with you at tater's. It's always a good time. Not too many mountain dulcimer players show up, but now there's two of us. Miss Crystal
Thanks for the kind remarks:) I am doing great. I love being the RD of Campbell. It definitely has its challenges, but all in all I'd say it rocks my face off! So how are you doing? Is Chemo all done?
I was just thinking about you and wanted to drop a quick note and say hi. I hope all is well with you and your family and hopefully I'll see you all in the not too distant future.
Yes, Im still playing my dulcimer. I heard you were at Winfield this year. I was also there. I kept looking for you and your family but never actually saw ya'll.
Hey, Erin! How's the week been treating you? Can hardly believe whole week has almost gone by since we were munching on "cookies" in your kitchen!
I have been painting everything (that doesn't move)in my house to get ready for Thanksgiving. It's so weird hosting my Mom and Mom-in-law, when I'm such a kitchen novice . . . thankfully I won't cook it all by myself. I have about 15 other adults(real ones) to help!
But we will miss seeing your family these next two Thursdays (Josh's dad comes in tomorrow). Hope all is peaceful (and hilarious) as possible this week!
Erin - your quietsunshine site is so positive and uplifting. I admire your strength of spirit. We met you briefly at the MMD Family Gathering way back when and were impressed with your talent - look forward to meeting you again one day soon. You're in our thoughts and prayers. Hugs, Robin & Art
Hello! I do like Flogging Molly. You know who they are? Haha... I do pick on the dulcimer quite a bit in my dorm... especially since I don't have my bass guitar. I need new strings, and a 6.5 fret though, but I'm a starving college student!!! How are you doing?
Thanks so much for being there last week. You both added so much personality to the program, as well as Blessing Everyone! I love you both and thank the Lord you are in my life.
Hey sweet Erin. Today is probably a not-so-fun day . . . thank Jesus for that sister of your's who is probably making chicken noddle soup right about now! I was thinking/praying about you yesterday and hope that everything worked out well. Thank you for the update you sent out . . . and I pray lots of grace and peace settles on you tonight.
By the way, I'd bet good money that you are the cutest bald chick in Kansas!!!!
Go to myspace.com/stephenandchristiemiller right away...immediately...asap...if you want to hear some great music!!! I'm only the proud mom... :) I think he has written others in the last couple of weeks, but the 2 he posted are the only ones he felt ready to put "out there", ya' know. Blessings!
Miss Erin: I'm thinking of you today! How are you doing? I really miss having you around here...I see random things that are funny and I think of how you always used to laugh at the jokes I'd make (even though I'm not remotely hilarious). Remember the time that we ate those persimmon seeds roasted in chili oil? They were strangely addictive and delicious! Good times... Will you be coming to Sterling anytime soon? *I hope so!* If I'm ever around Concordia, I'll give you a call in case you're up for a visit! Be well, my dearest and most favorite mountain-dulcimer-playing, yellow-wearing friend! Love, Cayla
