Ernest Drake may be the nightmare of stereotyped thinking: too punk to be a just another club-act, too electro to be a rockband, too much content to ignore, too danceable to think.
Last year – when twila.too and Ernest met for the first time - it became clear that Ernest Drake would no longer be a one-man-stand.
The contrast between the direct aggression of Ernests vocals and Twila's aloof yet erotic singing matched just great.
Their music is straight in-your-face as well as subtile. Provoking and danceable - live as well as on record.
DJ Phoney started Ernest Drake in 2006 to be able to find a way to express his anger about a lack of rebellion in this so-called post new economy society.
One demo and a limited 7"EP saw the light of day before he met twila.too and Ernest Drake became a team-up.
Before blasting the speakers with Ernest Drake, twila.too was bombed in the electronic scene of Cologne since 2001. In the past, she worked with Bob Humid, Air Liquide, Decomposed Subsonic and others.
DJ Phoney is probably best known for deep underground Hip Hop-, Roots Reggae- and Funk-tunes as well as more than 350 DJ-sets. He worked with International Criminal, EmCee Lynx, D3Z’s, Eduardo, Son of Nun, Mr. Kato and others.
Together they are Ernest Drake!
New tracks have been recorded by Bob Humid at Fat Of Excellence-studio.
A vinyl 12" is planned for release in january on Soulplex Recordings/Drake Records .
Ernest Drake can be booked for live-gigs and DJ-sets.
