Interests

  • General

    My son.
    Movies, movies, movies...
    Travel and Adventure
    Sushi
    Cool people
    Being a geek
    My geeky-ass friends
  • Music

I like everything from classical to punk...but mostly punk.
  • Movies

I'm a movie whore. I'll watch anything. Comedies, drama, action, suspense...you name it, I'll probably watch it. Or I probably already have...
I love B scifi and horror flicks, mostly because I like to complain about all the stupid stuff they do. On the other hand, I am a huge fan of really good scifi. I also love superhero flicks, even the bad ones.
I love all of Kevin Smith's movies so far.
Everything done by Pixar, as well...Wall-E rules!

There's no way I could list all my favorites, but here's a list of notables:
Iron Man, Batman Begins, and The Dark Knight - hands down, the best superhero flicks to date
Serenity - and the Firefly tv series that preceded
The ORIGINAL Star Wars trilogy... fuck George Lucas
The Lord of the Rings trilogy...all hail Peter Jackson
    The Fifth Element
Running Scared - even if you don't like Paul Walker, the acting, story, and cinematography in this were all amazing
The Machinist - a beautifully crafted film in every way. And Christian Bale's dedication to his work is beyond comment...
    Sunshine - 2001 for the 2000's.
Four Rooms - the last few seconds of the 3rd and 4th vignettes is some of the funniest in cinema history. I literally cried.
Bladerunner, Imposter, Total Recall, Paycheck, Minority Report - all based on stories by Philip K. Dick.
Equilibrium, Boondock Saints, Fight Club, The Salton Sea
Million Dollar Hotel - a sad and beautiful movie
Salt Lake City Punk, 100 Girls, Lars and the Real Girl
Cowboy Bebop - kind of cheating, because it's a TV series, but they did make a feature length movie. Anime.
Amelie, August Rush, Juno, The Bucket List, Under the Same Moon
    The Princess Bride, Stardust, Ladyhawk
The Breakfast Club, The Goonies, Labyrinth, Legend
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
This will take a while...so, more later.

  • Television

I watch a few TV shows, but I'm sure you hear about them on every other page on MySpace. So, how 'bout some podcasts for you geeks and technophiles?

Check out Revision3's (http://revision3.com) line-up. I use iTunes to subscribe to DiggNation, Systm, Tekzilla, and The Totally Rad Show (and Ctl+Alt+Chicken and The Broken, but those seem to be on permanent hiatus).

Also, Geek Brief, WebbAlert, CNET Live, MAKE Magazine: MAKE Podcast, and Tiki Bar TV are informative and entertaining. If you're not a geek, though, you'll probably be well outside the intended audience.

I also listen to several audio podcasts regularly, mostly hosted by Leo Laporte and produced by his TWiT Netcast Network (http://twit.tv)

Blurbs

About me:

I love to travel, to meet new people, see new places and do new things. Where I've been, so far: U.S. (all over), Canada, Mexico, Fiji, Australia, Chile, England, France, and Antarctica...
I've lived in the vicinity of Rock Hill, SC; Seattle, WA; Petaluma, CA; Rehoboth Beach, DE; and Tucson, AZ. And, depending on how you define it, you can probably throw in Cape May, NJ; Portland, OR; and Antarctica (I was in each of these places at least 2 months in the Coast Guard, for boot camp, ship maintenance, and deployment, respectively).

I like to find art in everything around me. I'm NOT an artist, but whatever created our universe was, and many men and women are, and there's lots to be seen if we just look around once in a while.

I guess if I do have an artistic side, I pour it into making Halloween a little more fun every chance I get. Sometimes, I think I should have just run away to Hollywood when I graduated high school, so I could have gotten into special effects. I really envy the people who get to do that for a living...

My priorities in life lie with my friends and family, and especially my son. I like to be surrounded by people I can relate to, though not necessarily the ones I'm related to! When I say family, I include those that I value the most, and this transcends blood bonds...I've adopted some, and disowned others.

CORPORATIONS LIE

Who I'd like to meet:

Anyone worth their salt...
If you don't already know me (more importantly, If I don't already know YOU) and you want to add me as a "friend" send me an email telling me why. I tend to deny most attempts to add, since MySpace is filled with marketing bots.
I think MySpace is a great way to keep up with the friends that I have, and maybe reacquaint with a few old ones along the way. And if a new, interesting, intelligent person comes along, the more the merrier!

As for comments...don't get me started. Suffice it to say that I'm not a fan. If you want to tell me something, send me an email! I love those...
