Although we do believe it is important to have influences and heroes when it comes to music...It gets tiring for us to go to show after show and hear bands completely rip off a Haste The Day section, or play an exact Killswitch Engage riff. We derive our styles, tastes, and enjoyments out of these bands....but ripping them off only embarasses yourselves as musicians and the bands you rip off. It completely downfalls your creativity. Our biggest influences are ourselves...because we are the only ones that can make us succeed.

When one thinks about the state of Indiana, the words “boring and plain” almost immediately follow. Ironically enough, when one thinks about the band Escaping Memory, the thoughts are quite the opposite. These six individuals have worked non-stop for almost three years. There have been line-up changes, empty shows, musical differences, and personal obstacles…but these negatives are outweighed by the packed-venue performances, the amazing feedback, the musical outcome, and the overall “never give-up” attitude shown by the band. In less than three years, Escaping Memory has overcome already small odds by sharing the stage with some of today’s masters of metal, including (but not limited to) Unearth, Chimaira, The Red Chord, Still Remains, and Walls of Jericho. Escaping Memory’s music is packed to the brim with face-shattering metal guitar riffs, rocket-fast drumming, catchy choruses, and soft melodic ballad-like sections that would make Arnold Schwarzenegger fall to his knees and weep.
If there is one thing the witnesses at an Escaping Memory show can tell you, it’s that the band acts, plays, and performs for the music. There can be 300 kids watching, or simply only 7, and the band will make sure that everyone watching will remember their name when the night is over. Although some fans have said that Escaping Memory reminisce in the waters of Killswitch Engage, All That Remains, August Burns Red, and even some In Flames influence, it hardly makes the band unoriginal. The band yearns to reach every person they can in hopes of opening the youth’s eyes to true metal again, and even if you don’t remember the music, by all means you will remember their earth-quaking stage presence. The dedication of the band to its fans comes to a peak as their money has gone into recording their EP, “City of Angels” (with Scott Wambach at The Room in Evansville, IN) and giving to their fans for absolutely free. If you see them at a show, make sure you pick one up.
So maybe Indiana doesn’t have a baseball team, or a national monument of our Country. The state doesn’t have beaches, or great lakes, or white water rivers, but if there is one thing this state can provide for us all, its cows, racing, or bone-splintering metal with Escaping Memory.
