QUOTES

“The stage was also the setting for perhaps the most promising new band at the festival — Essay for the Ordinary… the six-piece from Sussex had the crowd dancing frenetically to their catchy brand of ska and pop-punk.” Adam Zacharias, Molesly News and mail

“ they manage to pull a decent crowd for an early slot on the Surrey Advertiser stage…a surprisingly accomplished set.. they are actually pretty good! The musicianship is solid and whilst they don't do anything out of the ordinary there's really nothing bad about them. …they come over well and there are some fine moments, particularly from the bass player, an all important element if you're going to do ska well. The songs are upbeat and have an element of fun about them, culminating in an amusing cover of the 'Ghostbusters Theme'. The brass section get plenty of moments to shine and is supplemented by the singer adding trumpet on a couple of songs. They go down well and get a couple of people dancing and they even give out a prize for the best dancer, well OK it's a cereal bar that someone gave them earlier but it's the thought that counts! It's a promising performance from a young band and it will be interesting to see how they develop. Give them a couple of years to hone their set and they could well turn into a band to watch out for. There are a couple of weaker songs but on the whole it's good stuff and there's plenty to build on.” [9/13] by Andrew Latham, Room 13 reviews

"‘They sound awesome...I really like their stuff" - Sophie Clipsham-Smoke Radio

"‘Frisky funtime ska pop with bright and buoyant brass section taking in Madness aswell as the punkier more contemporary ska punk acts. Lovely…." - Bugbear

"‘Cool cats’ from Essay For The Ordinary is a good all rounder delivering good music alongside impressive vocal" - Messamusic

“Essay For The Ordinary are a clever live act whose musical competency is a refreshing delight from the usual ska acts whose attempts to include a brass section usually ends up being merely an annoyance, with EFTO it is a key leading element. For creating ska-punk like it should be, the band deserve great credit.” - Subcity Radio

Hey dudes and dudettes Thanks for checking out our myspace.
So... EFTO started in January of 2006 with Just
Jon Hampson (Singer/Guitar),
Lewis Bye (Guitar),
Stan Holt (Bassist)
and Nathan hewer (Drums)
The band was founded by Jon in his early years of high school,
as year 10 approached, it was a good time to start up the band, as it was better than playing computer games. Lewis and Stan had been in a band 'Stuck under Sound' but as this split, Stan, and soon Lewis joined Jon in his quest for world domination. The band was stuck without a drummer for quite some time but soon enough they settled for Nathan. With high hopes the band started to write songs, which had an original feel to them, and they were given the chance to play live by Blind Eye. EFTO got through 3 gigs (thanks to trust from Blind Eye and Bogus) before they realised what sort of band they wanted to be (as the stuff they had already written hadn't really showed there full potential as a band).
In mid May The band decided to see what there songs would be like with some brass and so they quickly asked Harry Hogg (Trombone) to a practice. The band liked there stuff with Harry but still something was missing. So they quickly found Matt Edwards (Saxaphone) to fill the void (and believe me he did this very well!)The Band was finally complete, They started on a whole new set based on a ska punk basis! and that my children is the tale of EFTO!..... a tale which we would like to last over forty years and end with tribute bands playing on every continent. But that can only be done with your help.
So become part of the scene!!! and join the revolution!!! CONTACT US BY ADDING - skatheland@hotmail.co.uk - TO UR MSN.....

cheers xxxx
