About Essentia

A small impression from the debut album "Decade" Released Sep 2011


Essentia is an alternative rock-band from Tampere, Finland. The band was formed in 2001 and after releasing five english language EPs the five-membered brotherhood is celebrates their 10th anniversary with the release of the album Decade.

Essentia – as a band – is approaching the teen age and is still going strong. The band has played approximately 200 gigs and participated in a few interesting projects including making the first Nordic music video in 3D and a tour in Europe in 2008. Essentia also sometimes manages to lose the sense of time and place, especially when in good company... and in this family called Essentia the company is always good.

Essentia started in 2001 when the vocalist, Joonas, was recovering from a car accident and he had to spend long periods of time at the hospital. As a part of his recovery process Joonas wrote down his feelings and the outcome was, well, music. With a little help from his friends Joonas polished the songs until they were ready to be performed. Still, the history goes even further than this.

Without this band these five guys, who grew from small young lads to adult hairy men, would have a few less stories to share with their grandchildren.
