THE BASICS OF CANDLE MAGICK:
Candle Magick is the most inexpensive and most widely used type of Magick. Any candle you use for ANY type of Magickal use should be UNUSED. NEVER use a candle that has already been lit, even once.
On the appropriate day and moon phase for your spell choose your candle based on the type of spell you will be doing. Choose by color, shape, size, scent, etc. Always cast your circle before doing ANY kind of Magickal workings. Remember, this is for your own protection. Hold your candle in front of you and state your goal, then chant your rhyme or spell, and while chanting, close your eyes and concentrate, envisioning the outcome of your spell, with your desired results. Feel free to take your time doing this, and make a complete picture in your mind.
Next, before burning your candle, you have to "dress" it with the appropriate oils. This is to establish a link between you and your candle through a "primary sensorial experience." In other words, by touching your candle, you are transferring your personal vibrations into it, therefore, becoming "one" with the candle. Start at the top (North) and rub the oil to the halfway point, always brushing in the same direction. Repeat the same procedure from the bottom (South) and working up to the halfway point.
Finally, it is time to light your candle. This should be the point where you are concentrating most on the outcome of your spell. Light the candle with a lighter or with another candle. NEVER light a candle with matches. Concentrate for a few moments, or as your spell requires. Take into account that you now have all the elements of the Candle Magick working for your now: Earth, Fire, Air, Will, and Spirit.
If your candle goes out, DO NOT RELIGHT IT. It is probably telling you that this is the wrong time to perform this spell, and to try again another night, using a new candle.
Let your candle burn according to the spell. If your spell requires the candle to burn completely, you do not have to stay with it, just make sure that it is in a safe and protected place. Afterwords, check the melted wax. Your candle may have left you a message.
When your spell is done, extinguish your candle if needed. NEVER BLOW IT OUT. This is actually an insult to the fire gods, saying that Air is stronger than Fire, and since no Element outranks another, this is to be carefully avoided. Either use a candle extinguisher, or pinch the flame out with your fingers.
The remains of your candle can be thrown away or buried in a sacred place.

Witches love the Moon the importance, power and beauty of the ever changing Moon is usually something we all revere
If you are reading this with the view of working with the Moon in your own magick, then you should start by observing the Moon, on a daily basis and keep a daily journal of how the changing phases of the Moon affect you. Your mood, your health and energy levels. You should do this for at least a month, if not much longer, before you start your magickal workings with the Moon - it will give you an understanding and connection which cannot be gained from reading any book or website!
For magickal purposes there are 5 important phases of the Moon.
These are:
New Moon - When the first sliver of the Moon is visible
Waxing Moon - When the Moon is growing in size
Full Moon - When the Moon is visible as a complete round
Waning Moon - When the Moon is decreasing in size.
Dark Moon - When the Moon is not visible at all for about 2 or 3 days.
Once you have spent time observing and attuning to the Moon it should become easier to sense the energies of the Moon, making it easier for you to harness those energies when performing magickal work.
As a general rule:
Perform magick for new projects at the New Moon.
When the Moon is waxing, you should perform magick for projects that you want to enlarge. So this is a good time for success, wealth and health spells.
Full Moon is a potent time for all kinds of magicks. You could perform workings to increase your psychic awareness, healing abilities and skills at this time.
When the Moon is waning, it is a good time to do workings for things you want to reduce in size. Thus it is good time to do weight loss spells, getting rid of bad habits spells and anything else that you need to remove from your life.
Many Witches do not perform magick at the dark moon, but it can be a very powerful time to work on magick to improve your own life, your own outlook on life and to reach deep within to find your own true self, the spark which makes you you.

Herbs can be very important in spell casting and everday life. Herbs are used in almost all my spells, as well as in circle work and for healing. Sachets can be made filled with certain herbs to promote a specific feeling or emotion, or to draw people to you. They can also be carried for protection, health, and luck. Using them in tea has amazing results; look how popular chamomile tea is in stores to promote sleep and calmness. But you have to be careful: some herbs can be very dangerous if taken internally or used too much, so you must know what you are doing & study well. Herbs can also be ground and thrown on coals for incense during ritual or even just for personal use or in meditation.
Remember hearing about ingredients witches' used like 'bats wings' or 'red eyes' in children's tales? 'Bat wings' is a folk name for Holly and 'red eyes' for Potatoes.

You can look at the cycle of the week when planning your magick. The days of the week have genders based on their planetary associations. Below are details of the types of magick to associate with each day of the week.
Monday (Moon) Magick:
The energy of Monday is associated with the moon and is female. This is a great day to work with moon energy so you may want to do divination. This is also a good time to focus on issues involving mothers, nurturing, fertility and growth. Monday is also a good time to work for clarity, beauty or help with women's issues.
Tuesday (Mars) Magick:
Tuesdays are full of the male energy of Mars. This energy is one of courage, success and lust. This is a good time to give attention to issues dealing with violence, competition, conflict of survival. Tuesdays are also good for questions of money, endurance and leadership.
Wednesday (Mercury) Magick:
Wednesday is named for Mercury, a planet of male energy. This is a great day for working with communications, thought, self-expression, wisdom and the arts. The energy of Mercury will also aid magick having to do with issues of addiction and psychology. Wednesdays are also good days to do divination.
Thursday (Jupiter) Magick:
The male energy of Jupiter prevails on Thursdays. This energy is conductive to work with growth and expansion, business, prosperity, abundance, success and health. Thursdays are also great times to focus your magick on the big issues in your life.
Friday (Venus) Magick:
Friday is associated with Venus and has female energy. Fridays are great days for workings having to do with love. beauty and romance. The Venus energy of Fridays will also aid magick involving healing, protection, loyalty, fidelity, trustworthiness and women's issues.
Saturday (Saturn) Magick:
The Saturn energy of Saturday is female. This is a good day to work with divination and psychic abilities. Saturn energies will aid magick concerning the elderly, illness, death and the end of life issues. Saturday is also a good day to do binding spells and to deal with constrictions, limitations, or infidelity in your life.
Sunday (Sun) Magick:
The energy of the Sunday, which is named for the sun, is male. Sunday is the best day of the week to work with issues involving fathers and other authority figures. Sundays are great for working on questions of leadership, money, prosperity and power. They are also good days for focusing on your health, vitality, energy and happiness.

I must say before you read this that it was written by an American witch. I live in the UK but the same goes for here.
I am a witch. I do not worship Satan; I am not interested in Satan. Satan was invented by the Christians.I am not a Christian. I don't go to church on Sunday. Jesus is not my savior. I believe he was simply a holy man who lived 2,000 years ago. I am not afraid of going to Hell because I don't believe in Hell any more than I believe in Satan. I believe in reincarnation; that I will come back to this world or another and live out another life. I am not evil. Telling people I am a "good witch" or asking me if I am a good witch implies that there are evil witches. There are evil PEOPLE in the world, and there are people who chose to work with the forces of nature in a way that harms others; those people are NOT witches. The central law of being a witch is: "IF IT HARMS NON, DO AS YE WILL. Please don't ask me about sacrificing cats or desecrating churches. I love my cats. And I don't go to churches or synagogues unless a friend from that religion invites me to some special occasion. And if I DO enter a church, I am not struck by lightning. And if a Christian or a Jew or a Buddhist came to a pagan ritual, our Gods would not strike them dead either. Isn't that something to think about? Wearing a pentacle is no different than wearing a cross, crucifix, or Star of David. If you want me to take off the symbol of MY religion (and Wicca is a religion, protected by the same First Amendment rights as other religions) because it's offensive, you need to make everyone of every religion do that. The five points of the star signify the four elements of Earth, Air, Fire & Water, and the fifth point is Spirit; encircled by the World. How that can offend anyone boggles my little pagan mind. An image of a tortured, dying man is more offensive, yet thousands of people openly wear crucifixes every day. Also, don't ask me if I'm in a "coven" in that half-horrified, half-fascinated tone of voice. If I want to talk about my coven, I will bring it up. If I am a solitary practitioner, I have no coven to discuss. In any case, our rituals have candles, food, drink, poetry, dancing...yes, there is a knife but it only cuts the air, not anyone's flesh. I don't drink blood. I am not some kind of vampire. I wear black because it keeps negativity away and because it looks better on me than orange and purple polka dots. If you want to ask me something related to MY religion, ask me when the next full moon is. Or the next blue moon. Or what a blue moon IS. Ask me about herbs. Crystals. Healing. Even ask me to make you a love potion. But I don't cast spells on other people and I won't cast a spell on you to make you prettier, thinner, more desirable. And I won't cast a spell on your quarry to make him/her love you. Trust me, you don't want that, you don't want the karma that involves, and neither do I! That's a form of manipulation, taking away someone's power, infringing on their free will. Not nice at all. And I also won't cast a binding spell to make someone STOP doing something to you. Spell work is about co-creation. A witch works with universal energy, with the gods, to tilt the engine of probability somewhat. Need money? Don't try to ensorcel your boss to give you a raise. Simply ask the universe to increase the flow of abundance in your direction. That infringes on NO ONE's free will. One last thing: giving me a book about the Burning Times is like giving a book on the Holocaust to a Jewish person. It's not funny and is rude. Yes, I do go to Salem, but not because any of those poor executed people were witches (I think the jury is still out on some of them), but because there's cool pagan shops there. If there were cool pagan shops in a town called East Cowflop, I'd go there. Please don't try to make me ashamed of who I worship and what I am. Please don't try to convert me or "save" me. Don't throw holy water on me. Don't leave little pamphlets on my desk or windshield. I don't need to be saved. Witches are proud of the fact that we don't recruit people to become witches. We simply ARE, and those around us see how we think, how we act, and our inner peace, and only when someone says "how do I become a witch?" do we take them into the fold with us. I will NEVER leave a religious tract with anyone. I don't have one, unless you count this letter. I am not asking you to convert. I am only asking you to understand. If you don't want to understand, just leave me alone.

Someone asked me to explain what I believe in? This may be helpful.....
Believe "in" is a funny idea to a witch. We don't perform acts of faith or have dogmas. To us the Goddess & the Gods are just there,like the hills & rivers are there. The Earth is the body of the Goddess. The God is the life force that impregnates. Goddess & God are within each of us. There is no idea of a separate God in heaven,judging us,nor the slightest belief that our bodies & their needs & pleasures are dirty or sinfull,needing to be risen above to find salvation. The Goddess & God are sometimes called the "Old Ones" for they have been with us since Neolithic times.
Some people are surprised to find that witchcraft is a religion,but really you can't be aware of spiritual realms & not be religious. The witches religion is free & unstructured with no dogma. This can be something of a culture shock when dogma & religion have been seen as inseparable for so many hundreds of years! Above all to witches,life & the forces of Nature are sacred,there to be respected,celebrated & also used,when the time is right for magical workings. Witches do not believe that their way is the one & only right way for everyone,they merely feel it is right for them. They believe strongly that each person should have their freedom to find his or her own way of worship,or not worshipping,as the case may be.
Witches regard sexuality as sacred & the male/female polarity is a source of power. Thus it is only fitting that both should be seen as divine. It seems pointless to assert that men & women are equal when God is continually refered to as "He" - a little pronoun like that resonates deep in the unconcious & despite all rationalisation results in a basic concept of God as masculine. Likewise myths are the dramatic representation of beliefs & where these are without the Goddess,the power of the Feminine cannot emerge. Witches believe that the Feminine is resoundingly important, & the reasons for many of the enviromental problems that bedevil us have their roots in the underlying contempt for the Feminine over the last 2000 years(at least!) The Earth is the body of the Goddess. If you venerate Her,you do not pollute Her--quite simple. That is a matter of instinct,not a law that needs to be imposed from without,or a matter of scientific proof.
Do witches have a moral code? Yes, & this is it......Eight words the witches creed fulfil. If it harms none,do what you will. We have to decide for ourselves what "harms none" but mostly this is quite obvious. Stealing,bullying,assault-these are obviously harmful. Occasionaly issues are less clear,however. In a divorce,for instance,people may be harmed,but equally they may be harmed if the marriage remains intact. There is no dogma to tell you what you must & must not do. "Harming none" also means not harming yourself. There is no law that says you must put yourself last & go through life a po-faced martyr (probably poisoning the air for everyone that comes near) We are each responsible for our own fulfilment & happiness,for only in this way can we truly celebrate life & be creative & only in this way can we bring anything worth having into our relationships with other people. So although the witches code is simple in one way,in another it is also complicated. "Do what you will" is not an invitation to rampant self indulgence! It needs thought about what is really right for you,your "true will" not just the whims of the ego
Do witches really do magic? Yes. Magic works through the power of the mind. Explain more another day.

Absolutely NOT! But an explanation of this needs needs an understanding of the difference between Pagan Earth religion & Christianity. The Devil is a Christian concept,mainly invented to explain the paradox of the existance of evil in a world supposedly created by a one & all powerful benevolent God. The early church tried to demonise other faiths, by simply saying that all other Gods/Goddesses were either the Devil or servants doing his bidding. People were often effectively forced to worship & pay money to the church. The anti-pagan emphasis was made even more obvious by the use of Pan as the standard depiction of the devil (who's image is not mentioned in the bible)
