About Estria & Samurai Graphix Samurai Graphix is a custom screen print shop in the Bay Area, CA run by Estria. Estria began spray painting in Hawai'i in 1984 and has since painted hundreds of murals. As an influential leader of San Francisco's "Golden Age" of graffiti (1980's), he pioneered painting techniques of characters and scenes. He is one of the originators of the stencil tip, used by graffiti writers to create thin airbrush-like lines. Estria co-founded Visual Element, the EastSide Arts Alliance..s free mural workshop that develops youth into the voice of the people. We are accepting submissions for writers to compete in this year's Estria Invitational Graffiti Battles:

• Chicago Saturday, July 18
• Finals in Oakland, Saturday October 10

We are looking for the best writers who can rock both letters and concepts. Women are highly encouraged to submit their work. Holler with pictures or links to submissions@estria.net. Don't send them to Myspace, we won't receive them here.

For all you graffiti piecers and production masters, Estria wrote a tutorial on how to make a Skinny Cap/Stencil Tip. It's also in PDF format so you can share it with others.

Estria began spray painting in Hawaii in 1984 and has since painted hundreds of murals. He was an influential leader of the "Golden Age" of graffiti (1980's) in San Francisco, pioneering painting techniques of characters and scenes. He is also one of the originators of the stencil tip, a modified cap used by graffiti writers to create thin airbrush-like lines. Estria has painted in Peru, Italy, Mexico, Japan, Honduras, New York, Los Angeles, Honolulu, Charlotte and San Francisco.

Since 1993 he has taught graffiti classes and lectured at universities on graffiti's social and political impact. He garnered national attention with his arrest for graffiti in 1994; appearing in CNN, the San Francisco Chronicle and Examiner, and the National Enquirer.

Estria co-founded Tumis Design in Oakland, California, which develops graphic communications and web applications for non-profits and foundations. Estria's clients prior to Tumis include Sega America, MTV, Toyota, McKesson Corporation, Nokia, the Mills Corporation, President Clinton, and McDonald's.

Estria also co-founded Visual Element, the EastSide Arts Alliance's free mural workshop that develops youth as a voice of the People. He has served the community through his cultural work for over 25 years.

Samurai Graphix is a custom screen-printing company in San Leandro, CA, founded by Estria in 2007 to serve local businesses, bands and schools. He is currently creating screen prints for Hip Hop concerts.

    The SF Youth Commission wants you invite you to come to a FREE Youth Concert called Youth Fest. The event will be held on the 18th of July (Saturday) at Civic Center Plaza, 355 McAllister From 12:00pm to 6:00pm. We have a list of performers coming… Big Rich, San Quinn, Young Bari, Ise Lyfe, Brwn Bflo, Mystic, Never Stop Learning Crew, Better Better Boys, The Giants, Hung Dynasty, La Kausa, and a few more.We got DJ Casanova keeping the music flowwing. We will have different cultural performers. There will be food vendors, different community based organizations will be tabling as a resource fair, Live Graffiti Art. We will be giving out Youth Warrior Awards to highlight youth in San Francisco who have made improvements in there life as well as helping out the community and a lot more...Its FREE TO ATTEND!
